Port Elgin, Canada The Salvation Army Full time

The Community Services Team Leader will provide support and assistance to the Community and Family Services in various programs related to community and client support in accordance with Salvation Army mission, values, and standards. The incumbent is responsible as a group/work leader, providing direction and checking results while generally working alongside those supervised. The incumbent directly supervises employees and volunteers.

Minimum Requirements:
  1. Completed an Undergraduate University Degree, preferably in Human (Social) Services field or equivalent.
  2. Safe Food Handling and First Aid/CPR Certifications or willingness to obtain.
  3. Non-violent crisis intervention training or willingness to obtain.
  4. Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, personal vehicle required and insurance, current copy of driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. A program vehicle will be used when available.
Experience and Knowledge:
  1. Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience, including experience in a specialized social services program; inclusive of supervisory experience.
  2. Supervisory/management skills and the ability to lead, coach, and motivate.
  3. Experience dealing with office equipment and tools.
  4. Knowledge of community-based resources and experience networking with government and social service agencies.

  1. A high level of integrity, good judgment, and ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality.
  2. Participate in mandatory orientation training, ongoing professional development, and training.
  3. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication (oral and written) skills.
  4. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  5. Lead by example, by demonstrating a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn and be flexible in the face of change.
  6. Proficient in working in a computerized environment; must have strong skills using Microsoft Office Suite.
  7. Adaptability: Demonstrate a willingness to be flexible, versatile, and/or tolerant in a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency.
  8. Behave Ethically: Understand ethical behaviour and business practices and ensure that own behaviour is consistent with these standards and aligns with the values of the organization.
  9. Build Relationships: Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of the organization.
  10. Communicate Effectively: Speak, listen, and write in a clear, thorough, and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques in both one-on-one and group settings.
  11. Creativity/Innovation: Develop new and unique ways to improve community-based programming and to create new opportunities.
  12. Focus on Client Needs: Anticipate, understand, and respond to the needs of internal and external clients to meet or exceed their expectations within the organizational parameters.
  13. Organize: Set priorities, monitor progress towards goals, and track details, data, information, and activities.
  14. Solve Problems: Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem.
  15. Ability & willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector search.
  16. Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
