OverviewWe are seeking an experienced professional to join our Trade Surveillance team — someone who can bring strategic vision, technical expertise, and investigative rigor to help proactively identify and mitigate risks related to our trading activities in equity and fixed income markets. The Senior trading surveillance advisor plays a key role in safeguarding the integrity of our trading operations across equity and fixed income markets. This individual will be responsible for implementing, developing, and continuously improving the firm’s trade surveillance program, ensuring that trading activities comply with applicable regulatory requirements and internal compliance standards. This position requires strategic thinking and a strong understanding of market conduct rules, trading behaviors, and surveillance technologies. The successful candidate will proactively identify trends and anomalies that may indicate market abuse, insider trading, or other forms of misconduct. They will also be responsible for conducting thorough investigations, documenting findings, and recommending appropriate actions. The Senior trading surveillance advisor will work closely with capital markets trading desks, compliance officers, and risk management teams to ensure surveillance tools are effective, data is accurate, and alerts are meaningful. They will also contribute to regulatory reporting, internal audits, and the development of policies and procedures that promote a culture of compliance and ethical trading. This high-impact role offers visibility across the organization and the opportunity to influence how trade surveillance is conducted in a constantly evolving regulatory environment.ResponsibilitiesLead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of surveillance models and alerts for equity and fixed income trading activities.Monitor trading activities to detect signs of market manipulation, insider trading, and other forms of misconduct.Investigate alerts and escalate findings to compliance management as needed.Stay informed about regulatory developments (e.g., CIRO, MXR, CSA, AMF, OSC) and industry best practices.Prepare reports and presentations for internal committees and regulatory authorities.What we offerCompetitive salary and annual bonus4 weeks of flexible vacation starting in the first yearDefined benefit pension plan that provides predictable, stable income throughout retirementGroup insurance including telemedicineReimbursement of health and wellness expenses and telework equipment* Benefits apply based on eligibility criteria.What you bring to the tableBachelor\'s degree in a related fieldA minimum of six years of relevant experience in trade surveillance, compliance, or a related role within a brokerage or financial institutionPlease note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be consideredExperience with surveillance systems (e.g., NASDAQ SMARTS)Knowledge of French is requiredAdvanced proficiency of English due to the nature of the duties or work tools or because the position involves interactions with English-speaking partners, members and/or clientsKnowledge of Canadian financial markets, particularly equity and fixed income productsFamiliarity with regulatory frameworks, including CIRO and MXR rulesAction oriented, Customer Focus, Differences, Interpersonal Savvy, Nimble learning, Strategic mindsetTrade Union (If applicable)At Desjardins, we believe in equity, diversity and inclusion.
