Are you an experienced lab professional experienced with IPC and/or HPLC looking for an opportunity to progress into a supervisory position? Then this position could be the role for you.

This position is one with responsibilities that will truly make a difference, as you work towards ensuring the quality of our key products being produced at our Davidstow plant.

You’ll be working in a CLAS accredited lab with a broad and varied remit, working across both chemistry and microbiology processes to complete tests on products ranging from whey (for infant formula) to cheese.

Beyond this, you’ll also be responsible for the supervision of 4 laboratory analysts, compiling and submitting reports, ensuring SOPs are being followed, conducting method validation, and supporting the team’s development.

There will also be an ongoing focus on your own personal development with conducting audits, with many internal courses to also continue growing.

With the remit covering microbiological and chemistry testing, if you have strengths in one area, we can develop you in the other.

This is a 3-on/3-off work pattern from 7am-7pm.

Responsibilities
  • Managing day-to-day testing activities across both micro and chemistry labs at Davidstow, ensuring they are carried out accurately and consistently.
  • Chairing Tier-1 laboratory meetings and attending technical meetings.
  • Ensuring all required sampling and analysis is carried out within defined schedules and fed back to production.
  • Reviewing all final product results before they are validated.
  • Researching and carrying out validation activities for new methods (in conjunction with management).
  • Ensuring SOPs are accurate for existing methods and to develop new SOPs for new methods.
  • Ensuring the lab is stocked with sufficient consumables for routine testing.
  • Calibrating and maintaining equipment, materials, and work area in alignment with DC lab standards and H&S specifications.
  • Training, coaching and supporting the development of others, ensuring to offer clear direction of relevant procedures, guidelines and standards.
  • Facilitating and participating in QMS/QCDS and QWS proficiency schemes.
Qualifications
  • Educated to a degree level within chemistry or microbiology.
  • Experienced working within a chemistry and/or microbiological testing environment.
  • Experienced supervising a team (desirable).
  • Experienced with using HPLC and/or ICP testing.
  • Able to work without direct supervision.
  • Able to apply statistical techniques and possess demonstrable problem-solving skills.
  • An effective communicator with colleagues and stakeholders (internally and externally) at all levels.
  • Able to lead by example, embodying core company values.
