At Ronald McDonald House Charities British Columbia and Yukon (RMH BC), we envision a province where families stay close to their sick children. Today, 2 out of 3 Canadians live in a city or town without a children’s hospital. Our Mission is to give sick children the healing power of being together with family.

As a champion of family-centered care, we enable access to children’s hospitals by providing families with sick children accommodation, meals, and wellness programs that support their emotional and physical well-being.

In 1983, the first RMH BC House opened its doors in Vancouver with a 13-Bedroom House, and over the years, with an increase in demand for this essential service, construction of a new building was underway. In 2014, a 73-bedroom House was unveiled on the grounds of BC Children’s Hospital along with a new 2,000 sq. ft. RMH Family Room in Surrey Memorial Hospital. p>

About the Position

An integral leader on the Development & Communications team, reporting to the VP, Philanthropy, the Director, Marketing & Communications is responsible for supporting the needs of the organization with all aspects of marketing and communications, growing awareness and brand understanding for the organization. The Director, Marketing & Communications helps play a critical role in driving revenue and engagement for the Development team through supporting and strategizing on areas such as digital fundraising, donor relations, activation and recognition for partnerships and other revenue generating initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Communications & Branding:

  • Oversee the execution of RMH BC & Yukon’s brand campaigns throughout the year, focusing on driving mission revenue, relevance, awareness, and understanding.
  • Lead the creation of marketing materials and content that effectively communicate the nonprofit's mission and inspire donor contributions.
  • Provide strategic input and oversight on multi-channel marketing strategies (digital, social, TV, radio, print) to maximize reach and ROI for fundraising initiatives.
  • Lead and manage reactive social media issues, including drafting statements, managing media inquiries, and crisis communication in partnership with the VP of Philanthropy.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of marketing programs and develop new or improved strategies based on research and best practices.

Fundraising Campaigns & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with the Director of Philanthropy and Donor Engagement to develop multi-channel donor communication strategies, fostering relationships and long-term loyalty.
  • Create messaging and materials to support McDonald’s – RMH BC storytelling, advancing brand trust and donor engagement.
  • Develop and manage annual fundraising event marketing plans, including promotion, media relations, and post-event follow-up.

Collaboration & Cross-Departmental Support:

  • Partner with teams across Development, Family Services, Administration, and Capital Campaign to provide strategic guidance and marketing support for various initiatives.
  • Support marketing and communications needs for the capital campaign and provincial expansion plans in collaboration with senior leadership.
  • Contribute to speaking notes, message maps, letters, decks, and other collateral for donor engagement and public outreach.
  • Act as a representative of RMH BC at community events, speaking on behalf of the organization to drive awareness.

Team Leadership & Vendor Management:

  • Manage relationships with RMH’s partner agencies and contractors, overseeing the RFP process, project briefs, budgets, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Lead a small team of marketing professionals to ensure consistent messaging, brand alignment, and timely execution of campaigns.
  • Manage the marketing budget and track related expenses.
  • Creative thinker, able to quickly develop solutions to challenges.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional planning, organizational and time management skills.
  • Flexible and enjoy working in and contributing to a fast-paced and fun, purpose-driven team atmosphere.
  • Ability to bring new and bold ideas forward to promote the RMHC brand, and drive giving, with a primary focus on digital and mass channels.
  • Creative problem solver, with the ability to think outside the box.
  • Strong oral communication and exemplary writing skills, including copywriting, promotional writing, business writing, web, social media and editing.
  • Demonstrated budget planning and financial management experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to long-term relationship building with donors, partners, and volunteers.
  • Access to a vehicle and a valid BC driver’s license.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, from time to time.

Experience and Educational Requirements

  • A post-secondary degree in marketing, communications, or related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related work experience, developing and executing integrated marketing and communications strategies that produce results.
  • Experience with marketing and communications in support of fundraising objectives is an asset.
  • Tech savvy with strong proficiency with Microsoft Office.
