About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular, Full-time Associate Director, Operational Excellence to join our dynamic Operational Excellence team. In recognition of this important work, Operational Excellence Commitments have been embedded into our brand as part of our operational pillars. The work of the Associate Director, Operational Excellence supports teams on living these commitments at Canadian Blood Services and the subsequent Operational Excellence Program which also includes the technical principles and leadership commitments needed to highly engage and motivate teams to make big performance improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the operational excellence team, developing the team in the technical tools, operational excellence commitments and leadership principles.
  • Support program implementation, including tracking and reporting on progress to plan.
  • Manage and triage ad-hoc requests and projects, acting as an operational excellence manager or industrial engineer when required.
  • Ensure high quality program materials are developed and maintained.

Formula for Success

  • Using your strong leadership skills, direct the regional deployment of Improvement activities through a team.
  • Drawing on your change management skills, act as a change agent for the program, communicating and escalating observations and barriers to speed and implementation of the program as required.
  • Utilizing your superior analytical and project management skills, support the Director in the development of the program implementation roadmap and plan, tracks progress, works with regional and functional teams on goal progress, and understands issues and barriers to implementation.
  • Harnessing your problem-solving skills and working under the guidance of the Director, update implementation plans to adapt to changing organizational priorities and emerging areas of support.
  • Using your prioritization skills and working in partnership with the Director, develop criteria to assess the relative priority of ad-hoc requests and projects, and impacts to other work.
  • With your strong attention-to-detail ensure high quality program materials are developed and maintained, including educational materials, program tools, templates and process documentation for both the team as well as other divisions such as PCP and QRA.

Desired Education and Skills

  • A bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or closely related field is required.
  • Certification in Continuous Improvement Manufacturing or related field.
  • Experience with waste reduction, standardized work, one-piece flow, just in time production, 5s, trying to keep WIP to a minimum, inventory reduction, etc.
  • Advanced process analysis and design expertise as well as project management skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and computer literacy.

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at Canadian Blood Services location at least 40% of the time/2 days of the week.
  • Frequent travel (once a month) to CBS sites may be required.
