Contracts Professional (Materials Management) BC Hydro, Surrey, British Columbia, Canada Materials Management (MM) is BC Hydro’s internal distributor of all direct materials and a key part of our supply chain. We’re responsible for the safe and reliable purchase, inventory, and delivery of materials that support both planned and emergent work across the province. We focus on delivering materials to the right place at the right time, optimizing end‑of‑life assets to reduce environmental impact, and supporting BC Hydro’s sustainability goals. Our team combines expertise, efficient processes, and technology to continuously improve and strengthen partnerships across the organization. Within Materials Management, the Materials Contract Management team oversees all contract activities that support the timely delivery of materials. We manage contractor performance, ensure compliance, and deliver strategic value through contracts for recurring materials such as poles, cables, transformers, and other key electrical components. Responsibilities Review and manage contractual obligations of the parties and provide continual review to ensure that all terms and conditions are met; monitor contract performance, including reporting and status of contractor and BC Hydro deliverables. Engage with applicable stakeholders to support resolution of contract issues, including change management, contract disputes and claims management / resolution. Perform day‑to‑day contract management activities including attending and/or chairing progress meetings, preparing and issuing meeting minutes, monitoring schedules, expediting, drafting change documents as required, facilitating change processes, negotiations, supporting negotiation of claims and disputes, forecasting, accrual reporting, validation of payment requests, tracking of contract submittals and other deliverables, and monitoring document controls and contract interpretation. Assist in the design and implementation of innovative strategies to enhance vendor management and optimize BCH's contract spend. Conduct supplier visits as required, ensuring compliance with operational standards and safety protocols. What you bring Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as Law, or Business Administration, Engineering, Construction/Project Management. Combination of education, professional training and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Minimum of seven years progressive experience managing complex contracts or projects. Proven abilities in influencing internal and external parties, managing risk, successful change management initiatives, and optimizing costs through innovation. Excellent interpersonal, communications, negotiating, project management, planning and organizational skills. Proficiency with MS Office including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required. Strong analytical skills, experience in data reporting, dashboard creation (Excel or Power BI), and ability to identify trends and communicate insights are assets. Advanced degree (e.g., MBA or equivalent) is an asset. IACCM certification to Associate level or certifications such as SCMP or PMP is an asset. Knowledge and experience with SharePoint and SAP applications are an asset. Knowledge of generation, distribution, and transmission systems within the utility sector would be an asset. What else you should know This is a P3 FTR M&P opportunity on the team based at Surrey Store 1. This opportunity will be posted concurrently. Role classified as a Hybrid role under the flexible work model, requiring working from home and in the office. Expected to work in the office a minimum of two days per week, with potential more frequent presence due to operational requirements and requiring flexibility.
