Casual Child Care Worker

- Responsible for the daily care and direct supervision of the children placed in a staffed resource unit.
- Create a physically safe and emotionally nurturing environment designed to assist the child in learning to cope and function positively both in the resource and in the community.
- Prepare meals and organize mealtimes and snacks for children.
- Help children keep good hygiene.
- Organize and actively participate in activities that will allow children to learn about the world and explore interests.
- Keep records of children’s progress, routines, and interest.
- Follow all relevant legislation and Agency policies and procedures.
Hours of work:
- Must be able to work shift work.
- Shifts are typically 12 hours 7:00-7:00; alone with 1-2 youth or double staffed with up to 6 youth.
- Calls for shifts are provided with and without advance notice (planned vacation coverage or sick calls).
Wage Range: $21.14 - $22.91 per hour.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Ability to demonstrate as a mature and responsible adult role model.
- Knowledge of child development, behaviour management, and First Nation culture is an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and problem-solving skills are required.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Ability to work in stressful, high-pressure situations.
- Proficient in computer software applications including MS Office, and database programs.
Qualifications:
- Child Care Worker or Child & Youth Worker Diploma or higher.
- 1-2 years of experience in a group home setting or related child care experience.
- Must be medically fit to work in a group home setting with proof of immunizations.
- Applicants with similar academic qualifications and related experience may be considered.
- First Aid/CPR training an asset; however, available paid training for successful applicants.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training an asset; however, available paid training for successful applicants.
Requirements:
- Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License and have access to a vehicle with an OPCF6A Insurance endorsement and minimum of $1,000,000 Liability.
- Satisfactory internal record check
- Satisfactory Criminal record check (including vulnerable sector)
- Satisfactory driver’s abstract.
