Nova Scotia, Canada JMC HR Consulting Full time

Are you interested in shaping the future of forestry in Nova Scotia? Are you a hard worker who shows initiative and enjoys learning? If you have a positive attitude, excel at building relationships, and drive continuous improvement, we have the job for you with the Forestry Sector Council (FORSEC) working in collaboration with the Forestry Contractors Association

We are seeking a team player to help operate efficiently, serve the industry’s employers, and strengthen our workforce. The successful applicant will be self-motivated, organized, resourceful, analytical, and competent in prioritizing.

ORGANIZATION INFORMATION

The FORSEC is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to developing a skilled and professional workforce for Nova Scotia’s forest industry. We collaborate with partners to identify and solve labour challenges. Our strategic priorities are talent attraction and retention, skill development, and human resource planning. We are cultivating a workforce like our forests—sustainable, diverse, and growing.

POSITION OVERVIEW

As a Continuous Improvement Trainer, you will help implement the Program for Industry Efficiency (PIE) with industry members. You will mainly engage with the province’s forestry contractors (Silviculture, Road Construction, Harvesting & Trucking). Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will work with the PIE program coach to develop your skills and lead improvement projects independently in the sector.

You will initially participate in projects with the PIE coach to learn strategies so you can progress to co-lead and ultimately lead industry improvement projects. This is a two-year term position structured for transition through coaching to training, with a possibility of renewal subject to funding opportunities. FORSEC will invest in you by providing training, coaching, and development in Lean Six Sigma methodologies to a Green Belt level.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Learn and then lead continuous improvement projects with industry partners.
  • Build excellent relationships with industry partners, gaining trust and buy-in.
  • Apply Lean-Six Sigma Methodologies and Leading Change in projects
  • Ability to collect and analyze basic data to come to conclusions.
  • Lead and facilitate discussions with industry partners
  • Lead project teams and ensure teams achieve planned milestones, timelines and results.
  • Promote engagement with process owner, team and project.
  • Provide clear updates to the FORSEC team and seek support and coaching as needed.
  • Perform other relevant duties where required in a team environment.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

The ideal candidate will have a combination of relevant education and work experience. They must have a minimum college diploma or a bachelor’s degree in administration, business, sciences, or other relevant field. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of comparable project management, facilitation, and problem-solving experience.

ESSENTIAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • A curious learner who enjoys keeping up with new industry trends and technology.
  • Keen attention to detail with a strong sense of initiative and follow-through.
  • Ability to think on their feet, identify and work through possible conflicts.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to see and work with different perspectives.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, work effectively under pressure, and thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrate proven experience building relationships with a similar audience.
  • Demonstrate proven organizational, planning, prioritizing, and time management skills.
  • A self-starter who exercises good judgment and decision-making.
  • Proficiency with computer software applications, specifically Microsoft Office 365 Suite
  • Forestry industry knowledge is an asset.
  • Familiarity with workforce development and the labour market is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with indigenous perspectives is an asset.
  • Genuine interest in and commitment to the forestry sector and its role in environmental stewardship and sustainability.

Why Work With Us

The FORSEC strives to make a difference in the industry and is bold about our unique ability to be the best at what we do. Collaboration and support among the team propel us forward.

Dedicated employees who can contribute their unique skills, voices, and ideas are critical to the organization's long-term success. Building an inclusive, diverse, and talented team is integral to serving this innovative industry.

Workplace Considerations

This is a full-time, two-year term position. We have two openings, one for Eastern Nova Scotia and the other for Western Nova Scotia. The right applicants for this job will need to enjoy being out of the office often and in the field working with industry employers and contractors.

This role has a flexible work model that includes working from home, in the field, and at the head office (located in Truro Heights).
