As a Health and Safety Advisor you will play a pivotal role in shaping and maintaining our organization's health and safety standards. You will have the opportunity to work closely with various teams, from the office to the project sites, ensuring that our safety programs are compliant with legislation and industry standards.

This position is ideal for someone who thrives on building relationships, mentoring staff, and taking a hands-on approach to safety. Your role will be crucial in promoting and embedding a proactive safety culture within our organization. You will be instrumental in developing safe work practices, conducting safety audits, and ensuring that our employees are trained and equipped to work safely.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement safe work procedures and policies, select training to mitigate risks, optimize employee health and safety, and foster a top-tier safety culture;
  • Maintain safety training records, corporate safety statistics, and input to external Supplier Information Management systems to ensure compliance with company and legislative mandates;
  • Coordinate and provide training and education to staff to ensure compliance with legislation and accepted good practice;
  • Conduct safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations internally and externally, including branch office visits and project sites;
  • Support asset management for health and safety equipment across all CBCL offices;
  • Mentor staff to develop their understanding and skills in health and safety practices;
  • Assist Project Managers with preparation of Project Safety Plans, including reviewing contractor safety plans and conducting construction safety audits for clients;
  • Coordinate with Human Resources and Corporate Compliance in the administration and application of workers’ compensation subscriptions and claims; and
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Your capabilities & credentials:

  • Minimum education consisting of a certificate or diploma in a related field from a recognized community college, or equivalent combination of education and experience with desire to pursue certification (e.g., CRST, CRSP, NCSO);
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in the health and safety field developing and implementing safety programs;
  • Strong knowledge and experience in working with the OHS acts and regulations of the Atlantic provinces and Ontario;
  • Experience conducting safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations; and
  • Exemplary communication skills.
