Job Introduction:

Actalent Services has a full-time secondment contract opening under the role of Transmission Line Engineer-In-Training (EIT). The role is starting on a 12-month contract term with chance of a contract extension based on project demands and personal performance. The estimated start date for this assignment is August 6th, 2024.

This role will be on the Owner/Operator side (as a Secondment from Actalent to Power Utility) and will focus on engineering and design of maintenance, rehabilitation as well as new T-Lines.

Position Location: This role has a preference to be based out of Kelowna, BC. However, there is flexibility to have this hire sit remote outside of Kelowna, however, preference to being within the province of British Columbia. For the right candidate, accommodation might be made for candidates wishing to work remote from Alberta.

Minimum Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering from a Canadian accredited university
  • Registered as a EIT with EGBC or another Canadian Engineering Association.
  • 2-4 years’ experience as a EIT with focus on Transmission Line Engineering
  • 2+ years’ experience using PLS-CAD for Transmission Line Modelling.

Considered an asset for the role:

  • Past Transmission Line Engineering experience on either FortisBC or BC Hydro projects.

Job Description:

  • Use PLS-CAD to model transmission line
  • Perform field inspections and engineering reviews of existing infrastructure
  • Prepare condition report and construction packages for the construction crew
  • Perform engineering assignments to support the effective operation and maintenance of utilities power transmission systems and related capital projects.
  • Utilize engineering principles, standards, and practices to ensure designs effectively balance safety, health, environment, cost, construction, operation, maintenance, and performance criteria.
  • Participate as a team member in specific phases of engineering assignments and ensure compliance with standards, best practice methodology and quality assurance.
  • Prepare appropriate documentation for assigned projects and support enhancements and process re-design projects, including concept and business case development.
  • Perform in-depth analysis of data for input into plans; evaluate observations, and prepare technical reports of findings.
  • Review portions of moderately complex plans, designs, applications and permits.
  • Collaborate with other engineers, design technicians, project managers, construction managers, operations and others related to project assessment, definitions, and the coordination of work assignments.
