The Esports Event Coordinator reports to the Supervisor of Esports Operations and will assist with the facilitation of weekly esports console offerings and service awareness at Conestoga College’s Waterloo and satellite campuses. The incumbent will support the Esports service through the guidance of student staff members, equipment setup, event hosting, marketing of events, and interfacing with various departments at Conestoga to execute their activities. The Coordinator will also uphold excellent customer service, operations processes, brand representation, and stat tracking during the ongoing satellite campus Esports operations.

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department working 24 hours a week fully on-site, Monday to Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Responsibilities:

Facility & Equipment Operations

  • Acts as the technical lead for day-to-day console, software, peripheral equipment troubleshooting, and solutions, and acts as the on-site operational expert of esports equipment and software
  • Guides, implements, and evaluates processes and policies for satellite campus programming and services, in collaboration with the Supervisor
  • Keeps equipment and software up to date and optimized in both offline and online gaming environments
  • Coordinates communication, servicing, and repairs of all equipment
  • Utilizes the Waterloo Campus Esports Hub for game console updating and game software downloading
  • Takes responsibility for the equipment and materials storage at campus sites, gaming equipment setup, and operations procedures to allow for efficient student access
  • Develops semesterly reports to provide oversight, feedback, and continual improvement in satellite campus programming, in collaboration with the Supervisor

Customer Service & Motivation of Student Staff

  • Assists with recruitment, onboarding, and training processes of the Esports Hub Lead & Satellite Campus student staff
  • Makes recommendations to the Supervisor for the student’s work schedule
  • Provides guidance and support to the Part-time student staff at various satellite campuses
  • Executes a high level of customer service by delivering efficient and effective operation processes and leading by example
  • Provides subject matter expertise on technology, gaming, software, and troubleshooting solutions to best guide student staff and operations
  • Works with the Supervisor to develop semesterly training and onboarding resources and support operations of Esports offerings at satellite campuses
  • Acts as the contact for athlete inquiries regarding recruitment for academy or varsity team competition
  • Liaises with the Condors Esports Coaching staff and Academy Team Leads to support recruitment efforts
  • Supports the advancement of Academy Team growth with recruitment and provides recommendations for new titles or teams based on satellite campus student interest

Activity Planning & Facilitation

  • Plans and hosts comprehensive console-based gaming events and tournaments that integrate cross-campus and Condors Esports at large
  • Recommends games, activities, trends, and best practices to optimize student activity through pop-up Condors Esports events
  • Assists with the planning and scheduling of recreation-based activities and events that serve diverse audiences across satellite campuses
  • Collaborates with Campus Coordinators, Campus Managers, and Conestoga Facilities Department on Esports service locations, event requests, and event advisory memos
  • Maintains and updates the digital and traditional signage and promotional materials at various Conestoga satellite campuses
  • Pursues and recommends campus-specific marketing outlets, both print and digital campus outlets to help Conestoga Esports services find a student community at satellite campuses
  • Collaborates with Athletics & Recreation department staff to create materials, and communicate campaigns and key messages
  • Collaborates on projects pertaining to the Athletics & Recreation Department
  • Supports booth outreach and event opportunities to showcase Condors Esports operations
Qualifications:
  • Two-year Diploma in Information Technology (IT) and Applied Computer Science, Media Studies, Gaming and Multimedia Studies, Marketing and Communications, Esports Administration, Esports Marketing, or related field of study
  • One year of practical Esports related work experience
  • Experience operating video games, PC, and AV equipment
  • Computer hardware and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders
  • Customer service and conflict resolution skills
