System Designers are high level thinkers and experts in multiple disciplines in automation making them able to define and refine basic approaches to automation, working through roadblocks, detailing out technical plans of action and communicating to all stakeholders. Our focus is process understanding through analysis of cycle time, accuracy, definition and testing of functional limits, and application of good manufacturing practices to meet customer needs and obligations.

The overall goal of the Systems Design Team is to add systems level oversight to the sales, design and execution of projects while providing specific gap filling resources to help identify and manage design and operational execution risk. This is accomplished by thorough upfront understanding of applications, detailed review of functionality and applying control limits within the ability of the provided automation solution. This may involve proof of concept testing, assisting to manage technical solutions and control of testing parameters to accurately measure and report on our ability to meet intended goals.

It is critical to communicate challenges, set expectations, and predict risks to be successful at delivering an extraordinary customer experience (ECE) as well as an extraordinary employee experience (EEE).


What would a typical day be like?

  • Critical review and assessment of Proposals and concepts prior to purchase order
  • Responsibility to learn customer process and becoming local expert to support design, integration and build of the robotics system
  • Review and assessment of functional requirements of concepts provided by the applications/sales group
  • Creation of functional design plans based on preliminary concepts and pricing guidelines
  • Collaborating, leading, and participating in risk assessment and risk mitigation plans
  • Participation and contribution in Mechanical, Electrical and Controls Design Reviews
  • Creation and contributing to Supplier Statement of Work requirements
  • Critical review and evaluation of 3rd party solutions for Feeding, Conveyance, Machine Vision etc. to meet overall project needs.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership abilities through execution of project deliverables, planning and monitoring and driving the team to meet technical milestones
  • Approve, create, review and support and perform deep dive and in-depth calculations and analysis for cycle time, simulation, accuracy, Gauge reproducibility and reliability studies and machine performance control requirements

What qualifies you for this opportunity?

  • Ability to collaborate and foster a leadership role, while controlling technical solution and maintaining positive work environment
  • Firsthand experience in multiple fields of design, applications, project management, controls, robotics, or customer machinery
  • Significant experience with motion controls, robots, vision systems and project engineering would be an asset.
  • Talent to conceptualize industrial smart robotic solutions collaboratively within a team
  • Ability to identify, develop process responsibilities and to establish best practices within the organization.
  • Amazing communication skills to make presentations to internal team, customers, and vendor partners
  • Demonstrated writing skills for preparing technical requirements and functional requirements documentation and defining project scope
  • A post secondary degree/diploma with demonstrated experience in Systems Design, Engineering Physics, Engineering Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent.
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in electrical, mechanical, or software controls technology
  • A minimum of 10+ years background in at least two areas of expertise or discipline which may include but are not limited to the following: Manufacturing Engineering, Test Engineering, Applications Engineering, Mechanical Design Engineering, Electrical Design Engineering, MES/SCADA Data Systems, Control System Engineering/Integration in a similar workplace
  • A portfolio of projects in which you made significant contributions in some of the following: design analysis, system accuracy, cycle time, kinematics, reliability/maintainability, technical risk assessment, design for automation, functional planning, design specifications, acceptance test plans, 3rd party qualification, and continuous improvement process.
  • Experience in system design, development and qualification of robotic automation solutions is an asset
  • Thorough understanding of robotics, vision systems, machine controls, structured problem solving, and statistical analysis is necessary
  • Strength with AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, advanced skills with Microsoft Excel, and working knowledge with SolidWorks
  • Track record of creative problem solving in a team-oriented environment
  • Track record of creating alignment between stakeholders
