Position Overview

Shift Change is a project of the YWCA Halifax. Its focus is on growing participation and representation of women and gender diverse people in the skilled trades industry in Nova Scotia, including the Construction, Automotive and Industrial Manufacturing sectors. We envision an industry where women and gender diverse people can safely grow careers in skilled trades, and where we all work to change unhealthy workplace cultures so that everyone can thrive on the job and in the industry.

The Shift Change Project Lead is responsible for the overall coordination and management of YWCA Halifax's Shift Change Project. In this role you will further the project vision, sustain and deepen external relationships, and manage a team of 1-2 staff and 2+ trusted contractors.

Shift Change works with partners (private sector companies, industry agencies, government, post-secondary institutions, and more) to make systems-level change. The project approach includes supporting networks, learning together, and identifying high-impact interventions. The project has been in place for 7 years and has several areas of ongoing work:

  • Supporting a network of partners
  • Increasing engagement and empowerment of women and gender diverse people
  • Advocating to government and industry for key changes around sexualized violence
  • Developing, planning, and delivering training for industry in partnership with local and national community and industry agencies

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • 3-5 years' experience leading a project that is multi-faceted and supporting short term efforts towards long term change work.
  • Experience in systems-level change working with the private and/or public sectors.
  • Track record of project planning, implementation, and evaluation in an outcome-based framework.
  • Keen interest in ensuring equity and justice with the ability to meet people where they are at.
  • Highly self-directed and able to work independently.
  • Proven ability to lead a team.
  • Exceptional relationship and partnership building skills, including the ability to collaborate and negotiate.
  • Experience working in and/or with companies and industry agencies in the private sector.
  • Highly organized with administrative and financial management skills and a high level of computer literacy.
  • Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing, including experience in report writing.

Beneficial Qualifications:

  • Experience with research.
  • Trauma-informed approach.
  • Sound understanding of community development and facilitation practices.

Additional Requirements and Invitation to individuals with intersectional identities: A current First Aid and CPR certificate and clear Child Abuse Records, Criminal Records and Vulnerable Sector Checks, a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle may be required.
