  1. 23,000 kilometers of roads and highways
  2. 4,100 bridges
  3. 9 provincial ferries

Our District Highway Operations Division plays a critical role in managing various programs, functions and activities throughout our province, including snow and ice control services, road maintenance and repair services, and approval of various permits.

About Our Opportunity

Reporting to the District Director, the District Traffic Supervisor (DTS) represents the District on matters pertaining to Transportation Engineering. The DTS will:

  1. Develop programs, set priorities and authorize approvals for the implementation of regulatory and warning devices.
  2. Be responsible to implement strategic planning for the administration of specialized support for the District.
  3. Accountable to the District Director on matters other than the approval of regulatory devices (legal status).
  4. Represent the Department in court in relation to traffic engineering matters.
Qualifications and Experience

Required qualifications include:

  1. A Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or another acceptable diploma program along with six (6) years’ experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  2. Completion of a Traffic Engineering Technicians course at a recognized educational institution would be considered an asset.
  3. Broad expertise and understanding of traffic and transportation principles, and traffic operational and control operations.
  4. Demonstrated competence in the Transportation engineering discipline.
  5. Thorough knowledge of the Motor Vehicle Act Laws, Public Highway Act, MUTCD-geometric design standard, traffic control manuals, traffic operation manual, etc.
  6. Knowledge of photography, surveying, and technical use of various Traffic Engineering Equipment, such as radars, electronic slope indicators, units, computers, etc.
  7. Proven ability to effectively handle public and interdepartmental relations at local, regional and provincial levels.
  8. High degree of tact, diplomacy, and communication skills for maintaining credibility when dealing with various public and governmental agencies.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Working Conditions

Your time will be split between an office environment and travel throughout your area visiting work sites, reviewing roads and bridges, and attending meetings in various weather conditions.

The successful candidate can decide between Hebbville, New Minas, or Middleton Area Office.
