Our District Highway Operations Division is vital in managing various programs and activities across the province, including snow and ice control, road maintenance, and permit approvals.
About the RoleAs the District Traffic Supervisor (DTS), reporting to the District Director, you will be the representative for the District on Transportation Engineering matters. Your responsibilities will include:
- Formulating programs, establishing priorities, and authorizing the implementation of regulatory and warning devices.
- Overseeing strategic planning for specialized support within the District.
- Accountability to the District Director for matters outside the approval of regulatory devices.
- Representing the Department in legal proceedings concerning traffic engineering issues.
Essential qualifications include:
- A Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a comparable diploma program, along with six (6) years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Completion of a Traffic Engineering Technicians course from a recognized institution is an asset.
- Comprehensive knowledge of traffic and transportation principles, as well as traffic operational and control practices.
- Proven expertise in the Transportation engineering field.
- In-depth understanding of the Motor Vehicle Act Laws, Public Highway Act, MUTCD geometric design standards, and traffic control manuals.
- Familiarity with photography, surveying, and the technical operation of various Traffic Engineering Equipment, including radars and electronic slope indicators.
- Demonstrated ability to manage public and interdepartmental relations effectively at various levels.
- Strong communication skills, tact, and diplomacy for maintaining credibility with public and governmental agencies.
We will evaluate the qualifications and competencies through various assessment methods, including written examinations, standardized tests, oral presentations, interviews, and reference checks.
