COURSE: FSC239Y5Y Intro to Forensic Science
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Forensic science is the application of any scientific inquiry into criminal investigation. The results of such inquiry are ultimately for presentation in courts of law. Specialists in forensic science will lecture on a variety of topics that will include crime scene investigation, the role of the coroner, forensic pathology, forensic chemistry, forensic botany, forensic entomology, forensic anthropology, forensic dentistry, psychology and toxicology. Case studies will be reviewed, and the role of the expert witness will be examined.
COURSE ENRLLMENT:: 375
NUMBER OF POSITIONS: 1
SIZE OFAPPOINTMENT: 100 hours (total number of assigned hours for all positions is dependent on course enrolment).
APPOINTMENT DATES: September 1, 2024 - April 30, 2025
LECTURES: Tuesdays 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM and Thursdays 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful Subject Matter Expert TA applicant will have a Masters degree (completed or in-progress) Forensic Chemistry and possess previous TA experience in a "Forensic Science" course. Successful applicants for all positions will have substantial science course background at the graduate level and background in Forensic Science; knowledge and familiarity of areas within the various Forensic Sciences fields/forensic ident/policing; scientific research and project management is required.
DUTIES
Teaching assistant to invigilate tests and final examinations, Hold office hours with students; Consult with supervisor; Mark assignments and examinations, Attend class discussions/presentations. Must either be available to attend all lectures or have previously taken FSC361H5 or its initial iteration as FSC350H5.
