The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an immediate opening for an HR Generalist – Leaves and Benefits in the Human Resources Department (HR). In this position, the HR Generalist – Leaves/Benefits will assist the Human Resources department with employee benefits programs, provide support to employees requiring leave or benefit-related information, process leaves/exits, reporting, and other related duties assigned by management.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  1. Respond to all incoming leave requests, WC requests, and separations. Ensure that all requests are reviewed, approved, and processed in a timely fashion. Track all leaves and short-term separations and return dates, involving ongoing communication with impacted employees and management.
  2. Handle staff terminations and conduct exit interviews; facilitate the exit process by meeting with the impacted employee on their last day of work, reviewing termination details, and providing answers to common questions.
  3. Process employee separations, leaves, and terminations in NYCAPS once proper paperwork is submitted and approvals are in place.
  4. Collaborate with Labor Relations staff as needed with employee involuntary separations.
  5. Issue proper documentation to impacted staff, including leave approval memos and separation memos.
  6. Administer benefits for all employees, ensuring new hires are properly enrolled in the benefits program and that open enrollment transactions are processed in a timely manner.
  7. Communicate with internal and external agency partners, including NYCERS, OLR, SNP, union locals, and NYC health insurance carriers.
  8. Coordinate blood drives, pension seminars, and other related activities.
  9. Maintain various reports such as leaves, voluntary and involuntary separations, and resignations.
  10. Provide additional coverage within various HR units as needed.
  11. Perform other related tasks and projects as directed by management.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college; and
  2. Six (6) to eight (8) years of City HR experience.
  3. Direct experience handling leaves, benefits, and resignations for city government agency employees.

Preferred Requirements/Skills:
  1. Master’s degree.
  2. Excellent customer service, interpersonal, organizational, verbal, written, and communication skills.
  3. Strong attention to detail, data accuracy, and integrity.
  4. Ability to interact with all levels of staff, with a high regard for confidentiality and diplomacy.
  5. Knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws regarding leaves and benefits.
  6. Knowledge of City systems such as PMS, WCS, NYCAPS, CHRMS, etc.
  7. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Hours/Shift:

Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.
