Role Description

The Staff Accountant will play a key role in our accounting department, contributing to the accurate and efficient management of our financial operations. Key Responsibilities:

As the Staff Accountant, your role will include:

  • Accounting Operations:
    • Perform day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activities.
    • Process journal entries, month-end and year-end closing processes, bank reconciliations, and other accounting transactions.
    • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
    • Support the budgeting and forecasting process by providing financial data and analysis as needed.
    • Assist in the preparation of tax returns and compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and internal controls.
    • Collaborate with other members of the accounting team to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
    • Stay informed about changes in accounting regulations and standards and ensure compliance with relevant laws and guidelines.
    • Assist with special projects and provide ad hoc support to management as required.
  • Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Analyze trends, variances, and key performance indicators to identify opportunities for improvement and risk mitigation.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to management based on financial analysis and interpretation.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting:
    • Assist in the development of annual operating budgets and long-term financial forecasts.
    • Monitor actual financial performance against budgeted and forecasted targets.
    • Collaborate with senior management to develop budget assumptions and projections.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and other relevant standards.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including management reports, variance analysis, and budget-to-actual comparisons.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data and reports through thorough review and reconciliation processes.
  • Audit and Tax Compliance:
    • Coordinate and support the annual external audit process, including the preparation of audit schedules and responses to auditor inquiries.
    • Assist in the preparation of corporate tax returns and compliance with tax regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Medical Billing:
    • Process medical billing claims accurately and efficiently in compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines.
    • Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility for billing.
    • Prepare and submit electronic and paper claims to insurance companies.
    • Follow up on unpaid or denied claims and resolve billing discrepancies.
    • Maintain patient billing records and ensure confidentiality of sensitive information.
    • Collaborate with healthcare providers and insurance companies to resolve billing inquiries and disputes.
    • Stay updated on changes in medical billing codes, regulations, and reimbursement policies.
  • Process Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and enhance efficiency.
    • Implement best practices and internal controls to mitigate risks and improve financial operations.

  • This is a full-time position.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Professional Accountant designation is preferred.
  • 5-10 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles, with a focus on financial reporting and analysis.
  • Strong understanding of financial accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of medical billing including familiarity with billing codes and procedures preferred.
  • Experience with ClearDent software is an asset.
  • Experience with Accuro EMR or PS Suites EMR software is an asset.
