Reporting to the Senior Managing Director, Portfolio Management & Operations, the Director, Debt Capital Markets will have global responsibility for developing and managing OMERS financing partner relationships and supporting the global investments teams in financing activities at the initial acquisition and throughout each portfolio company’s growth and lifecycle.

OMERS Infrastructure currently manages, alongside portfolio company management teams, approximately C$26 billion of debt across 26 companies. On an annual basis our investment team is raising approximately C$2 billion to support existing companies in the portfolio and C$2 billion for new investments. The size and number of our debt facilities, the complexity and breadth of our businesses, and the increasing opportunity we see to create value through optimal capital structuring and differentiated lender relationships has emphasized the importance of a new global debt capital markets role at OMERS Infrastructure.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Relationship management: Manage banking and lending relationships across the global portfolio to build and maintain critical advisory and lending relationships; develop new relationships in the lending community as credit structures become more complex and sophisticated

Optimization of company-specific capital structures: Regularly review and make recommendations on optimizing capital structures across the 30+ portfolio companies in the global portfolio, maintaining regular dialogue with our own investment teams and portfolio company CFOs

Financing execution: Partner with investment teams and/or portfolio company management on negotiation and execution of financing agreements, including fees and key terms

Portfolio-wide value creation and risk management: Identify and implement strategies to maximize the use of the portfolio balance sheet and leverage capacity; develop and implement strategies across the portfolio to diversify exposure and manage risk, including debt maturities and hedging strategies; consider and implement innovative bridging solutions to support our third-party capital program

Data-based decision-making: Working with the finance team, identify and report key metrics on portfolio and portfolio company debt with recommendations, key takeaways, and decision items to the Infrastructure Management Committee

Capital strategy reviews: review proposed capital structures and financing strategies for new investment opportunities

Credit markets outlook and strategy: Monitor, and share insights from debt markets globally as they relate to the infrastructure financing market and dynamics within important lending relationships; think strategically to anticipate and identify opportunities and risks across the portfolio and develop and implement a plan to address them

Mentorship: Mentor junior members of the investment team and support their learning and development, contributing to fostering a collaborative and accountable culture

QUALIFICATIONS:

10+ years of relevant experience in debt capital markets with a focus on project and/or infrastructure finance (from either investment banking or principal investing)

Broad geographic experience (U.S, Canada, Europe)

Generalist sector experience that includes one or more Infrastructure segments (utilities, energy transition, digital infrastructure, transportation and logistics, etc.)

Builds relationships effectively and easily adapts personal style

Strong analytical skills and creative approach to problem-solving

Demonstrated commercial judgement and business acumen

Strong leadership and management skills

Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal, demonstrated ability to interact at all levels of an organization

Works well as part of a team, but also able to work autonomously

Proactive, self-starter with initiative and drive, comfortable with working to tight timelines and prioritizing
