The Canadian Accreditation Council (CAC) is honoured to post for an Indigenous Engagement Lead position to engage and support cultural relevance and safety for Indigenous governing and serving human service programs and organizations who are undertaking or maintaining an accreditation process through CAC and to support CAC in the development of an Indigenous Framework and Strategy.

About CAC: CAC provides accreditation services throughout Canada for human and community health serving organizations. We are seeking a passionate, skilled, and culturally knowledgeable person who will support Indigenous communities, organizations, program, and people in the accreditation process, supporting cultural safety and relevance. This individual will need to navigate diverse Indigenous cultures and walk in both the Western world and the Indigenous world.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The purpose of this position is to engage and support cultural relevance and safety for Indigenous governing and serving programs and organizations who are undertaking or maintaining an accreditation process through CAC and to support CAC in the development of an Indigenous framework and strategy.

SCOPE:

The Indigenous Engagement Lead position reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and is responsible to develop, enhance and support accreditation standards and processes for First Nation, Inuit and Metis (FNIM) governing and serving organizations/programs in the Health and Human Services sectors. This position will also support the creation of a CAC Indigenous Framework and Strategy and will work closely with CAC’s Indigenous Advisory Council (IAC) which will help support and guide the strategy. The position will also have cultural accountability to Elders, Knowledge Keepers and Indigenous serving organizations.

The scope of this work will align with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s (TRC’s) calls to action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) to ensure CAC’s accreditation process is reflective of an Indigenous lens and supports cultural safety.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· A Bachelor’s degree (or relevant years of experience).

· Knowledge and experience working in the human and health services sector.

· Understanding of or experience with accreditation processes is considered an asset.

· Holds on-going meaningful connections to community, Elders, and Traditional Knowledge Keepers.

· Demonstrated ability to adapt and pivot to rapidly changing demands.

· Demonstrated understanding of the importance of creating equitable, diverse, and inclusive practices.

· Excellent time management skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.

· Excellent and flexible in their approach and traditional knowledge when delivering to varied stakeholders and creates and maintains authentic and positive engagement with Elders and Traditional Knowledge Keepers.

· Equivalencies will be considered.

DUTIES:

· Creating sacred and ethical space to understand each other’s needs in the accreditation realm.

· Attending ceremony to invite sacred and ethical space.

· Building strong relationships that support accreditation practices in FNMI based health and human service programs and organizations.

· Building strong relationships with CAC personnel and departments to support the development of an Indigenous framework for CAC.

· Ensuring cultural accountability to Elders, Traditional Knowledge Keepers, Indigenous organizations/programs as well as Indigenous person served.

· Ability to walk on a parallel journey; staying true to traditional teachings, ceremonies, Elders, and TRC calls to action while working within a Western world view in how it relates to accreditation practices and processes.

· Working towards a goal that supports and develops an Indigenous lens in accreditation practices, processes, and standards for FNMI based communities that are culturally relevant and safe, while respecting diverse understandings and practices.

The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

· Human and health serving sectors.

· TRC calls to action and UNDRIP.

· Holds traditional knowledge and Elder teachings with knowledge to support a strong commitment to on-going ceremony and teachings.

· Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the importance of creating equitable, diverse, and inclusive practices.

· Accreditation knowledge (considered an asset).

Skills

The incumbent must demonstrate the following skills:

· Facilitation and presentation of Indigenous knowledge, skills, and practices.

Physical demands:

Normal demands associated with an office environment. Some travel will be required.

Details of the Position: This position is a part-time contract position to March 31, 2025, with a potential to become permanent, of approximately 15 to 20 hours a week. This position will be remote based but will need the successful applicant to attend the CAC office in person and to meet with staff and stakeholders. Flexibility is required to meet people where they are at. Some travel will be required.

Compensation: Depending on experience and skill set, the salary range is between $38 to $48 per hour plus compensation for travel.

Job Type: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 10 months

Pay: $38.00-$48.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 – 20 per week
