Our client, a boutique law firm located in downtown Toronto is seeking an Estates Legal Assistant/Law Clerk to join their team

About The Job

  • Prepare correspondence and legal documents according to precedents and/or instructions
  • Prepare all types of probate applications and stay updated on court forms and processes.
  • Prepare and review estate and other fiduciary accounts.
  • Attend will and power of attorney signing meetings as a witness.
  • Support lawyers in managing their schedule and ensuring they have necessary resources.
  • Assemble, draft/proofread, and file legal documents.
  • Assist with the in-take of new clients.
  • Relieve lawyers of administrative detail by exercising initiative and judgment.
  • Provide general administrative support, including organizing and maintaining files.
  • Schedule meetings, hearings, and conference/virtual calls.
  • Arrange for serving and filing of legal documents.
  • Perform conflict searches and handle file management per firm's protocols.
  • Send out lawyers' accounts to clients and assist in collections of unpaid accounts.

What You Bring

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Wills & Estates Assistant/Clerk in a law firm.
  • Completion of a Legal Assistant or Law Clerk diploma.
  • Thorough understanding of the rules, procedures, and conventions associated with estates administration work.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and responsibility for the quality of work commitment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, NitroPro, CaseLines, PCLaw, and ability to adapt to new technology.
