The Opportunity .

Smart & Biggar is currently looking for an experiencedHead of Business Development to join our national Business Development & Marketing team.

As the Head of Business Development, you will lead and deliver the strategic business development, client, and growth strategies for Smart & Biggar. You will work collaboratively with our MD, the IPH Group’s CCO, the central Marketing team, the Practice group leaders (PGLs), andpractitioners across the firm.

Responsibilities .

As the Head of Business Development, your key responsibilities will include:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Responsible for enabling the firm’s strategic business development goals providing direction and hands-on support to the practitioner group to achieve the firm’s growth objectives
  • Provide leadership and coaching to agents/lawyers to improve business development capabilities
  • Lead, coach and manage the BD team
  • Manage the BD budget to ensure appropriate expenditure and suitable return on investment.

Client and Market Strategy Execution:

  • Implement and execute key client and industry strategies as directed by the IPH Group,working closely with the Director of BD Operations to achieve success
  • Oversee key opportunities and pursuits, providing both strategic and hands-on input on client material, bids and tenders, content and presentations
  • Implement the IPH Group-wide Client Feedback Program and activities to improve client experience and develop greater engagement with current and prospective clients
  • Work collaboratively with the central Marketing team to:
  • to market the expertise of the firm and be progressive with content, thought leadership and profile-raising activities
  • drive media campaigns; award submissions; online and social media activities; and other relevant communications activities and materials
  • ensure brand activities align with related business development activity and overall strategic vision of the firm
  • provide ideas and assistance in organizing business development and client events, seminars and webinars/podcasts

Noting: the central Marketing, Brand and Communications Team execute the above

Qualifications, competencies, and experience .

  • Bachelor's and/or graduate degrees in Marketing, Communications, or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in BD in professional services
  • Proven experience in leading high-performance teams and enhancing individuals' skills and capabilities
  • Ability to take a hands-on approach, directing others across multiple priorities effectively
  • Strong written and oral communication in English. French language skills would be an asset
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of marketing trends, industry best practices, and emerging technologies in the legal industry.
