Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the OH&S Manager is responsible for overseeing the OH&S Division, ensuring the effective management and coordination of OH&S staff, and fostering a culture of teamwork and inclusivity. This role involves strategic planning, performance monitoring, budget/costing management, and providing leadership in training and development. The role also involves working in the field, dedicating significant time to safety training and support.

Responsibilities:

  1. Staff management
    • In consultation with the VP of Operations, select and assign staff to various work sites/projects, ensuring equal opportunity for all employees.
    • Coordinate activities such as scheduling work assignments, monitoring junior staff, and setting clear priorities.
  2. Strategic Planning
    • Play a key role in the strategic planning for the OH&S Division to support long-term growth.
    • Monitor Client satisfaction.
    • Support business development activities to drive growth.
  3. Performance planning and monitoring
    • Monitor the performance of staff and initiate actions required to strengthen results.
    • Provide monthly reporting on OH&S projects, including new monthly proposals, ongoing contracted work, and completed projects, ensuring they are in keeping with set service standards and budget.
    • Ensure service standards for quotes, proposals, etc., are maintained.
  4. Training and Development
    • Support the training team.
    • Coordinate job shadowing and training of new employees.
    • Mentor and coach existing safety staff.
  5. Fieldwork
    • Work in the field including OH&S training, Industrial Hygiene (IH), or Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) support.
    • Engage in fieldwork to ensure practical application of safety protocols and standards.
  6. Additional Responsibilities
    • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall mission and objectives of the safety division.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or College program in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or related field.
  • Proven experience in OH&S management.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage budgets and perform strategic planning.
  • Proficient in safety regulations and compliance standards.
  • Fieldwork experience in OH&S training and support.

Working expectations:

  • Combination of office and fieldwork environments.
  • May require travel to various work sites/projects.
  • Flexibility in working hours may be necessary to meet the demands of the role.
