We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Talent and Culture Manager to join our team. The Talent and Culture Manager will play a crucial role in supporting the Director of Talent and Culture in the development and implementation of HR strategies and initiatives. This position will oversee and support various Human Resources functions including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and compliance, ensuring that our workplace remains productive, inclusive and legally compliant.

Van-Kam Freightways Ltd (Van Kam) is one of the largest regional carriers in Western Canada specializing in less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation. With 8 terminal locations across British Columbia, we fulfill shipments to communities within 1-3 days throughout BC and Alberta. Between our own resources and our partner network, our coverage extends beyond Western Canada into the U.S. and Eastern Canada.
- Assist the Director of Talent and Culture in developing and implementing HR strategies aligned with the company’s objectives, including projects such as revamping our employee end to end journey.
- Oversee and mentor the Talent and Culture Specialist on a variety of tasks such as recruitment, harassment investigations, and employee relations.
- Oversee and mentor the Talent and Culture Administrator on a variety of tasks such as recruitment, health and wellness initiatives, and employee engagement activities.
- Address harassment and violence complaints and act as Internal investigator for such complaints.
- Support the Director of Talent and Culture in managing employee relations and fostering a positive work environment.
- Assist in the development and updating of HR policies.
- Support Managers and employees across the business in all aspects of human resources.
- Oversee and administer any federal programs related to employment such as pay equity, employment equity, and other legislative requirements.
- Ensure compliance with Federal Legislation including Canada Labour Code, Canadian Human Rights, and Privacy Commission.
- Work with the Talent and Culture team on planning and executing engagement activities such as employee appreciation lunches, birthday treat day, Holiday party, and more.
- Trained in conducting harassment investigations.
- Proven experience and solid understanding of HR functions and best practices.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with attention to detail.
- Be a team player.
- Passionate about human resources and supporting others.
- Proven ability to take initiative.
- Be comfortable with occasional travel to support our locations throughout BC.
- Have 3-5 years progressive HR experience as a Generalist, HR Business Partner or HR Manager.
- In depth working knowledge of federal employment legislation.
- Be a CPHR candidate or CPHR designated.
- Experience working in a unionized environment.
