Are you ready for an exciting and impactful challenge? Look no further: VIA HFR is seeking a Director, Indigenous Relations in Quebec for this unique infrastructure project that will transform passenger rail in Canada's most populous region, between Toronto and Quebec City.
The roleReporting to the Vice President, Indigenous Relations, you will be a key member of our team, responsible for developing and managing sustainable and respectful relationships with Indigenous peoples.
The responsibilities- Lead a multi-disciplinary team responsible for implementing the Indigenous Community Relations Strategy and Engagement Plans.
- Build and maintain relationships with Indigenous peoples, working closely with them to understand their needs, concerns, and aspirations.
- Deploy a proactive and innovative approach to developing collaborative agreements that will confirm consultation processes and support meaningful participation in the planning and co-development phases of the project.
- Participate in the identification of opportunities and the achievement of socio-economic development targets for Indigenous communities, such as employment, contracts, and partnerships.
- University degree in communications, public relations, political science, law, international relations, or related field.
- Minimum of 10 to 15 years of relevant experience, including a minimum of five (5) years in a management role.
- In-depth knowledge of government processes, relevant regulations, and Indigenous issues.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate as part of a team.
- Results orientation and ability to develop and execute effective strategies.
- Political acumen, ability to influence and negotiate.
- Commitment to professional ethics and integrity.
- Ability to travel - up to 20-30% of the time - within the corridor and willingness to travel occasionally across Canada.
- Fluency in spoken and written French and English is a strong asset. Ability to communicate in one or more Indigenous languages is an asset.
