Campbell River, Canada CAWST Full time
Senior Marketing and Communications Advisor
  • Full-time

CAWST is a Canadian charity and licensed engineering firm. We address the global need for safe drinking water and sanitation by building local knowledge and skills on household solutions people can implement themselves.

At the heart of everything we do is our belief that when people have their basic water and sanitation needs met, they have the opportunity to succeed. This is what drives our dedicated team to work with a global network of more than 1,500 clients and partners. Together, we have reached over 50 million people since our inception in 2001.

Collectively, we are making a difference at a scale beyond what any of us could do individually. But our job isn’t done yet and we need you to help us expand our reach.

The Opportunity: Senior Marketing and Communications Advisor

Reports to: Manager, Marketing and Communications

Location: This position is Calgary based and requires you to be eligible to work in Canada. There is no anticipated travel for this position.

As part of CAWST’s Marketing and Communications team, the Senior Marketing and Communications Advisor supports the organization to accelerate its reach and impact. We aim to do this by engaging the global WASH sector to enrich our base of clients and funders and to increase adoption of technologies, and by increasing awareness and engagement across Canada to grow and diversify CAWST’s revenue.

This position’s primary function is writing and editing, but its broad portfolio encompasses strategic marketing and communications, including strategic planning, content creation, implementation and analysis. This role will be responsible for various marketing and communications activities, including:

Marketing: The successful candidate will provide strategic insight, creative tactical selection and implementation for marketing plans, campaigns, and projects. The advisor will also ensure that evaluation, analysis, and learning are part of every project as a core component to foster continuous improvement. An in-depth understanding of digital marketing platforms and analytical tools will be essential for success. The main purpose is to engage CAWST’s key audiences, boost CAWST’s brand awareness, and deliver against our core strategic directions as well as against specific goals, objectives, and revenue targets.

Communications: This role is responsible for developing communications plans and style guides and creating key messages and content in alignment with CAWST’s goals and objectives. This will include content creation, such as blog posts, social media posts, video scripts, website content, emails, print collateral, and more. Translating complex concepts into concise and effective messaging is a key component of this role, as well as providing guidance on key messaging to the CAWST team and its leadership. Ethical content development and storytelling is essential for sharing CAWST’s impact and increasing our base of clients, funders, and donors.

Key responsibilities:

Develop and execute strategic marketing and communications plans in line with CAWST’s operations plans; incorporate learning into cyclical campaign planning.

Develop and execute communications plans to build the profile of CAWST, its partners, and leaders, and to mainstream the importance of non-networked solutions, in alignment with global days of engagement (World Water Day, Global Handwashing Day, etc.)

Develop and execute media plans to contribute value to emerging conversations about water conservation and supply, safety, hygiene, sanitation, etc.

Liaise between the media and subject matter experts representing CAWST and its partners.

Monitor and respond to relevant mentions of CAWST and WASH topics online.

Connect with stakeholders from the CAWST team and its network of contacts to gather and tell stories, with a focus on ethical storytelling.

Support events-based marketing opportunities (such as speaking engagements); research and synthesize background information, coordinate logistics, develop briefing and concept notes, conference abstracts, pitches, speaking notes and more.

Develop and coordinate relationships with volunteers and contractors, such as graphic designers, videographers, and photographers.

Provide media training, coach staff and volunteers on CAWST’s key messages.

Other duties asrequired.
