Venor is proud to partner with Barrett Truss & Building Supplies on their search for an Estimator to join their team in Beaverbank, NS. Barrett Truss & Building Supplies has been family owned and operated for 99 years specializing in supplying building materials, project estimating services, roof truss design and manufacturing, and engineered wood product design and manufacturing from the forests of Nova Scotia.

As the Estimator, you will report to the Building Materials Manager and work closely with customers to review plans and specifications to create accurate estimates for projects in the residential and light commercial sectors.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Meet with customers to gain information about projects to complete estimates and perform take-offs.
  2. Develop plans and specifications for residential and light commercial construction projects while accommodating customer budgets.
  3. Estimate the material requirements for projects as well as explain the need and use of such materials to the customer.
  4. Prepare lists of materials based upon blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
  5. Understand and be able to explain building code requirements to customers.
  6. Build relationships with existing and new customers and resolve any issues as needed.
  7. Assist customers in store with product selection.
  8. Understand market and industry conditions/trends to make product recommendations for customers to provide value-added quotations.
  9. Coordinate with the shipping department for client orders.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
  1. Demonstrated experience in the residential construction industry.
  2. Excellent understanding of the technical requirements for residential construction projects.
  3. Experience or understanding of Microsoft Excel, estimating programs, and construction software's.
  4. Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  5. Knowledge of building materials and building codes.
  6. Exceptional customer service skills to maintain a professional and positive attitude.
  7. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and willingness to learn and adapt.
  8. Excellent communication skills and possess the ability to work independently with little supervision.
  9. A diploma in construction technology, engineering, architectural technology, or a trade certificate is considered an asset. Drafting experience is also considered an asset.
