Reporting to the Manager, the responsibility of the Registered Nurse is the promotion of health and the assessment of, the provision of care of, and the treatment of health conditions by supportive, preventative, therapeutic, palliative and rehabilitative means to medical patients in order to attain or maintain optimal function.
Qualifications/Skills/Abilities:
Required
- Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Physical Assessment course
- CC1 or equivalent
- Current medical experience with a minimum of two years within the last five years
- Oncology and palliative care nursing experience within the last 2 years
- Experience in administration of chemotherapy drugs and management of side effects
- Venipunctures to establish an IV required
- IV medications below the drip chamber
- Central line care – including tubing, dressing change ,line removal and blood sampling
- Maintenance of TPN
- Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing population and patient needs
- Leadership, Problem solving, decision making, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Interviewing and patient assessment skills
- Interest and experience in patient education and health promotion
- Commitment to continuous professional development and continuing education
- Participate in staff meetings and unit specific projects
- Availability to work all shifts including weekends
- Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records
- Knowledge of and adherence to Brightshores ‘CARE’ Behaviours (Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence) and ‘LEAD’ Competencies (Lead by example, Empower, Achieve results, Develop others)
- Advocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safetyat Brightshores through patient safety knowledge, skills and attitudes
