We are seeking a Legal Assistant to join our busy insurance defence practice and have an immediate opening in our downtown Toronto office. The ideal candidate will play a key role in managing the legal and administrative practices of our associates. Required Experience/Skills/Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of experience in Insurance Defence Litigation, tort and accident benefit files.
  • Law Clerk or Legal Assistant diploma/certification from an accredited institution.
  • Solid understanding of the Rules of Civil Procedure.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a special emphasis on punctuation, grammar, spelling, and syntax.
  • Detail oriented with an ability to prioritize.
  • Prior experience in preparation of thorough transcription of recorded documents.  

Primary duties will consist of the following:

  • File organization and practice management.
  • Preparation of correspondence, briefs, memos and other legal documents in accordance with the Rules of Civil Procedure.
  • Filing of court documents.
  • Maintain lawyers' calendars.
  • Schedule meetings, discoveries, motions, mediations and pre-trials.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Outlook and PC Law as well as possessing a minimum typing speed of 60wmp.
  • Work well independently and thrive in a team environment.
  • Assist with other administrative tasks as required.

Compensation

  • Salary commensurate with experience level and demonstrated abilities.

  • 3 weeks vacation and 6 paid sick days

This position is currently hybrid. However, for the probationary period on site attendance is necessary.
