ASCENT is a Calgary based EPCM company specializing in oil and gas projects. We are currently looking for a Process Engineer to join our team. An ideal candidate will have EPC experience with oil & gas well tie-ins, surface facilities and pipelines in an engineering consulting environment.


As a Process Engineer at ASCENT, you will play a pivotal role in managing and executing engineering projects within the oil and gas sector. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Your technical expertise and leadership skills will be critical in driving project success and achieving our business objectives.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Key responsibilities include Process design development and technical content of the project work including well tie-ins, single and multi-well batteries; compressor and VRU design and installations; gas processing including dehydration, sweetening, dewpoint control and liquid recovery; liquid processing including separation, stabilization, and storage; facility troubleshooting, debottlenecking etc.
  • Develop solutions to complex process engineering problems related to the energy industry.
  • Work closely with discipline leads and team members to develop the optimal design for each project and client
  • Provide detailed process engineering design and deliverables including but not limited to: modeling of client processes in Symmetry simulation software (VMGSim), spreadsheets and other software tools available; process evaluation, optimization and debottlenecking studies; PFD and P&ID preparation and review; equipment sizing & selection c/w generation of process portion of data sheets; flare system evaluations and sizing; PSV sizing calculations; instrumentation sizing and specification; gathering system pipeline hydraulic modelling; facility line sizing; input into project deliverables such as DBM’s, cost estimates, vendor drawing reviews, squad checks, control narratives and shutdown keys.
  • Review vendor designs, submissions, drawings, and process details/calculations for compliance with RFQ documents and client/project requirements; ensuring equipment design is in conformance with project cost, schedule, specifications, industry standards and government regulations.
  • Preparation and participation in HAZOP or project design meetings
  • Review technical data sheets, specifications and tenders for oil and gas equipment packages, evaluation of equipment and technical selection
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory processes, codes, and standards


Qualifications:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 3+ years of related oil & gas facilities or EPCM experience
  • Registered with APEGA as a Professional Engineer, or EIT Status
  • Broad based experience and ability to independently perform process engineering calculations and design
  • Experience sizing and rating new and existing oil and gas processing and handling equipment
  • Strong Gas Processing Engineering technical knowledge
  • Proficiency in Symmetry (VMGSim) or related simulation software
  • Understanding of project planning, controls & scheduling
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and with clients
  • Able to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Field experience is considered an asset
  • HAZOP experience including participation and close outs is considered an asset
