JOINING OUR TEAM

The HR Advisor, Engagement & Culture (Squamish Nation) is a Term Full-Time (18 month) position based at Nch’ḵaỷ’s Head Office. Our Head Office is in West Vancouver, BC on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Sḵw̱xwú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and its people. You will be working towards generating wealth and prosperity for the people of the Squamish Nation. You will be working with a supportive team. Scope of the Position

The HR Advisor is an HR generalist and trusted advisor within Nch'ḵay̓, focusing on critical aspects of the Human Resources function. Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the HR Advisor provides strategic support and expertise in employee engagement and organizational culture, ensuring that team member experiences align with the organization’s mission, vision, and objectives. This position requires an HR professional with a broad knowledge of HR functions and specialized skills in engagement initiatives, advocacy, and collaboration to foster a positive workplace culture based on trust.


A core requirement of this position is to embody and represent the Squamish Nation's values and culture, making it ideal for someone with extensive experience in this area. Someone who does not meet all the job requirements will be eligible for personal development and training.


A. DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AUTHORITY, AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

a. HR ADVISOR & BUSINESS PARTNER

  • Collaborate with Director, HR to implement HR initiatives that support organizational goals.
  • Provide leadership in the engagement survey practices, including manager and team member guidance and debriefings.
  • Develop initiatives to address survey shortcomings and sustain identified strengths.
  • Develop and update HR policies, procedures, and practices to reflect the business’s evolving needs.
  • Provide HR guidance and support to managers and Team Members on HR-related matters.


b. INCLUSION AND DIVERSITY

  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives across the organization.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to implement strategies that support inclusivity, including developing learning opportunities, listening strategies, and action plans.


c. SQUAMISH NATION CULTURE AND NETWORKING

  • Build and maintain relationships with peers in Squamish Nation ecosystem, external professional networks, and industry counterparts.
  • Deepen and optimize cultural practices that align with Squamish Nation values, language, history, and evolving Community themes.
  • Educate internal team members with respect to contemporary standards and approach on key people-rated themes such as cultivating safety and collaboration, career development, community resources, and representation opportunities.
  • Stay updated on trends and best practices to ensure continuous improvement


d. EMPLOYEE RELATIONS

  • Provide guidance with respect to employee relations, addressing issues with sensitivity.
  • Ensure a positive workplace environment by promoting engagement and open communication.
  • Lead initiatives related to employee recognition and retention

e. HR SYSTEMS AND CHANNELS

  • Ensure effective utilization and implementation of technology in the role, including survey tools, communication platforms, newsletters, presentations, and related channels

  • Perform other duties as required.

C. REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES FROM SUPERVISOR

  • Reports to Director, Human Resources


D. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

KNOWLEDGE

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Inside knowledge and understanding of the Squamish Nation, its history, language and culture, its businesses, and strategic plan is required.
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation an asset, or similar certification in inclusion, diversity or similar.
  • Call to Action 92, UNDRIP, Human Rights, CSA 13 factors of psychological safety and related topics is required.
  • General knowledge of employment laws, HR policies and procedures.
  • Breadth of knowledge with organizational development principles.


SKILLS

  • Demonstrated advisory and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 360 (Teams, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word) required.
  • HRIS systems and/or survey practices required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present effectively in person and virtually, applying brand standards consistently.
  • Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.


EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in Human Resources.
  • Experience with First Nations and in particular the Squamish Nation is a requirement.
  • Proven experience in HR generalist or advisory functions, including diversity, inclusion, engagement surveys, inclusion initiatives and issue resolution.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
