Position Summary

The Senior Coordinator is an in-scope middle management position reporting to the Manager - ABE or designate. The incumbent is primarily responsible for initiating, implementing, supervising, and monitoring programs consistent with the College program plan. The Senior Coordinator also plays a significant role in identifying community or industry needs, developing partnerships, developing and recommending policy or procedure modifications, and evaluating and adapting programs. This position is eligible for participation in the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Retirement Plan.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • take an entrepreneurial, community-responsive approach to identify and offer programs in the various communities on an identified needs basis
  • initiate and implement programs consistent with the College program plan and in response to community, business, and industry needs
  • conduct needs assessments, recommend suitable programs and prepare program proposals
  • determine resource requirements for the program, prepare budgets and contracts, collaborate with the marketing team to advertise programs, recruit and select students, recruit instructors, secure facilities, and provide appropriate and timely documentation to the Administration department
  • monitor program delivery: orient, supervise, and evaluate instructors, and administrative program staff; resolve conflicts; verify and authorize staff time sheets and travel claims; and provide suggestions on staff professional development
  • monitor budget expenditures, amend budgets if required, and replenish supplies
  • inform staff on College policy and procedures and adhere to the Collective Agreement
  • ensure adherence to program curriculum
  • monitor student attendance and assist instructors in resolving conflicts and implementing the learner disciplinary process
  • conduct follow-up and evaluate program effectiveness in meeting community/industry needs
  • provide timely reports to the Executive Regional Director, funding agencies, and other partners
  • provide timely follow-up documents to Administration
  • provide programming information to students, training partners, and the general public through phone conversations, e-mail, in-person meetings, and class visits
  • assist in developing or modifying College policy and procedures
  • assist in marketing educational programming and promoting the College image
  • develop program curriculum, course content as assigned
  • participate (may also organize) in meetings with funding agencies, community contacts, educational, community, and industry partners, and College students and staff
  • represent the College or their region on committees


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • proven organizational skills that allow handling multiple projects at the same time while ensuring that the details in each project are dealt with in a timely fashion
  • proven ability to practice effective time management and prioritize work
  • knowledge of modern managerial practices, office procedures, and business communication
  • supervisory skills in managing personnel, evaluating performance, problem-solving, and conflict resolution
  • proven ability to work independently and make sound decisions while maintaining good judgement in keeping the Executive Regional Director, coworkers, partners, and students apprised of important developments
  • intermediate computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet software as well as corporate systems software
  • knowledge of adult learning theories and teaching strategies
  • understanding of northern Saskatchewan and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment


Education and Experience

In addition to the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed previously, the Senior Coordinator has:

  • a bachelor of Education degree with a Saskatchewan Professional A Teaching Certificate
  • a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience


Additional Requirements

  • must be prepared to work according to the demands of the position including evenings and weekends when necessary (i.e. field hours)
  • must possess a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel including overnight stays, air travel, and travel on gravel roads in all weather conditions
  • A satisfactory criminal records check is a requirement for employment at Northlands College
