PhotoSat is a Vancouver-based product-driven technology company that provides satellite-based elevation surveying and alteration mineral mapping. PhotoSat’s clients are Mining Engineers, Geologists, Geophysicists, Geotechs, Surveyors, Civil Engineers, engineering consulting firms, and Managers of Oil and Gas and Mining companies throughout the world.
Our technology sets our products and services apart, making them truly exceptional. There are many forms of surveying, however we are the only company producing satellite surveying. In short, we are competing against other technologies, not other companies.
Data Management role at a glance:
We are looking for a dynamic and proactive individual with strong leadership skills to fill this position. The ideal candidate is adaptable, decisive, and possesses a passion for fostering collaboration and achieving organizational objectives. They will work closely with the Production Team, Project Managers, and Account Executives to order satellite imagery from leading commercial satellite operators.
What you bring:
- Extensive Satellite Expertise: In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience working with data from modern Earth Observation Imaging Satellites, including a comprehensive understanding of their imaging capabilities and operational timelines.
- Experience using satellite data providers platforms: Maxar, Airbus, Planet, USGS, European space agency, Earth data etc.
- Knowledge on Coordinate Systems: Working knowledge of international coordinate systems, vertical datums, including custom local projections.
- Strong work ethic. You are organized and keep track of deadlines. You learn from each experience to perform better at the next one.
- Communication skills. You can write clear and concise emails to internal and external stakeholders. You are professional and friendly, and you can be assertive when required.
- Attention to detail. You are efficient with data entry. You send polished emails that contain accurate information.
- Desire to learn. You are interested in STEM topics and GIS. You like topics such as aerospace technology, geology, and engineering. You enjoy learning how to use new platforms and are a self-directed learner.
- Post-secondary education. An undergraduate degree required in GIS or other related fields.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Acquire satellite data from providers such as Maxar, Airbus, Planet, U.S Geological Survey, and more, based on client requirements.
- Solicit quotations from satellite data providers and conduct a comprehensive evaluation to identify the most cost-effective option that aligns with the clients’ needs and requirements.
- Negotiate prices with various satellite data providers to reduce organizational costs in obtaining the raw data or data in the format required by the client.
- Continuously explore and identify new data suppliers and satellite data providers, while maintaining strong relationships with existing satellite data providers.
- Attend seminars and meetings with suppliers to assess and evaluate suppliers’ offerings and capabilities.
- Proactively engage with data suppliers through email and phone to monitor ongoing data acquisition projects, coordinate image captures during optimal weather conditions, and resolve any issues that might arise.
- Maintain comprehensive records of historical satellite imagery data acquired or purchased by our organization within the satellite imagery industry.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Account Executives, and clients to understand their project deadlines and set realistic delivery targets for the satellite data or imagery.
- Collaborate and coordinate closely with the production and development team to apprise them of data acquisitions and efficient data delivery methods to ensure the uninterrupted execution of operational processes.
- Maintain effective cross-training and knowledge-sharing between your team and the production team to ensure seamless integration and efficient workflow.
- Foster strong communication and alignment with the revenue teams or departments to understand their needs, provide relevant insights, and support revenue generation efforts through timely and accurate data procurement and delivery.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Geography or related field required
- GIS certificate
- Excellent problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Esri ArcGIS or QGIS
- Working knowledge of Salesforce

- Eligibility: Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada and must complete third-party screening assessments for this role.
