About Us
Nova Scotia Emergency Management Office works in collaboration with Nova Scotian Municipalities, other federal and provincial departments, and critical infrastructure partners to strengthen emergency preparedness through planning, training, and exercising. The Emergency Management Office is responsible for the prevention/mitigation of, preparedness for, response to, and recovery from, emergencies affecting the Province of Nova Scotia.

Are you passionate about making a real impact in your community? The Emergency Management Office of Nova Scotia is looking for a Policy Analyst.
Reporting to the Director of Recovery Programs, the Disaster Financial Assistance Analyst is responsible for providing a wide range of duties relating to the Disaster Financial Assistance Arrangements (DFAA) program. In this role, you will support disaster assistance programs across the province, working on the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies that directly aid our communities during times of crisis. You will play a crucial part in the Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) program, facilitating the approval of disaster assistance payments, and leveraging federal resources to support small businesses, municipalities, and various departments. Every day brings new challenges and opportunities, especially during emergencies when an all-hands-on-deck approach is essential.
Primary Accountabilities
Oversee day-to-day requirements for Provincial DFAA program and liaise with applicants and external stakeholders. Update policies, procedures and training curriculum related to the DFAA program. Participate in Federal/Provincial/Territorial meetings/working groups to ensure the Province of Nova Scotia is aligned with all national standards, guidelines and processes. Participate in and/or coordinate program evaluation and reviews to support continuous improvement activities. Ensure quality assurance of DFAA files and that tracking systems are up to date. Assist with training of internal staff on DFAA programs. Work with a team to coordinate stakeholder consultations.

Working Conditions
This role is in a fast-paced decision-making environment, and you may be working at your computer for extended periods of time. You may be required to travel to remote locations work locations, and travel during inclement weather conditions.
Your normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day. This role does entail a high volume of work which may require longer than normal working hours and overtime. Due to the multiple spheres of action and scope of responsibilities that this position requires, there is significant mental pressure, requiring your resilience. Must be available to participate in the on-call Duty Officer stand-by rotation and available to support the response and recovery of emergency events as required. As you can imagine, deadlines in emergency management related work can change in an instant, so you will have a superior ability to multi-task and meet changing deadlines.
Additional Information
You will be responsible for working in the Provincial Coordination Centre (PCC) during emergencies, working overtime, and being on standby on a rotational basis. You must hold a valid Nova Scotia driver’s license and access to a licenced, operating motor vehicle.
