Nova Scotia Emergency Management Office works in collaboration with other federal, and provincial departments, critical infrastructure partners and Nova Scotian Municipalities to strengthen local and provincial emergency preparedness through planning, training, and exercising.

About Our Opportunity

Reporting to a Manager of Interoperability Systems, the GIS Officer is responsible for providing GIS software implementation services relating to the provincial 911 system, GIS requirements for our incident management software (WebEOC) and other emergency management related programs and priorities.

Primary Accountabilities

Oversee day-to-day mapping requirements for the provincial 911 system and liaison with NSEMO stakeholders (telcos, provincial departments, municipalities, Public Safety Answering Points etc.).
Provide GIS guidance and expertise as the province moves forward with Next Generation 911.
Provide technical expertise, training and exercising support on WebEOC and other software platforms.
Create written requirements documents to detail system configuration required to meet NSEMO's needs for Emergency/Incident Response processes.
Provide hardware and software support for the Provincial Coordination Centre.
Qualifications and Experience

**This may be the right opportunity for you if you have**:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant Geomatics field with five (5) years related experience, or graduation from an approved technical school in the field of geomatics with eight (8) years related experience.
In-depth knowledge of Geographic Information Systems, geographic data, and related principles.
Designing, evaluating, and querying databases, including understanding database relationships between objects/tables
Experience in implementing software, mapping and hardware infrastructure.
Superior ability to multi-task and meet changing deadlines.
Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.

**The following are considered assets**:
Experience in project management.
Experience working in an Emergency Management Centre (EOC).
Recognized Incident Command Systems (ICS) Training
Programming and relational database experience
Experience developing and delivering training to adults.
Technical Business Analysis skills.

Working Conditions

This role is in a fast-paced decision-making environment, and you may be working at your computer for extended periods of time. You may be required to travel to remote worksite locations, load vehicles, carry and setup equipment in a variety of locations, and travel during inclement weather conditions.

Your normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day. This role does entail a high volume of work which may require longer than normal working hours and overtime. Due to the multiple spheres of action and scope of responsibilities that this position requires, there is significant mental pressure, requiring your resilience. Must be available to participate in the on-call Duty Officer stand-by rotation and available to support the response and recovery of emergency events as required. As you can imagine, deadlines in emergency management related work can change in an instant, so you will have a superior ability to multi-task and meet changing deadlines.

a valid Canadian Driver's License and ability to travel as required.
ability to acquire to a RCMP Enhanced Reliability Status clearance.

**Salary Range**: $2,543.38 - $3,091.70 Bi-Weekly
