Duties

- Deliver interpretive presentations, guided hikes/tours, public interpretation programs (children, outdoor theatre, etc.), activities and special events.
- Provide quality visitor services to the public, work with various point of sale systems, selling permits and revenue collection.
- Record visitor statistics, provide visitor information and respond to inquiries in person and over the phone.

Work environment

Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canadas outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

Intent of the process

This process may be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures, security levels or linguistic profiles in same or other parts of the country.

Education:
A secondary school diploma or equivalency approved by the PSC, or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience relevant to position.

Experience:
E1: Experience in delivering messages/information to groups in face-to-face situations with the purpose of education, engagement, entertainment and/or motivation

Knowledge:
K1: Knowledge of communication, presentation and interpretive techniques such as storytelling, demonstration, theatre programs or guided walks.

Asset Experience:
AE1: Experience with black powder or use of historic weapons
AE2: Experience in theatre/performing arts, heritage interpretation, adult education, museum education, or story telling

Operational Requirements:
- Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrains, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportations;
- Be exposed to stress when responding to fluctuating, unpredictable visitor demands and requirements
- Must provide own transportation to and from the workplace

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

- Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment
- Willingness to use safe work practices (training and terms of use provided)
- Willingness to work irregular hours, shift work, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required
- Possession of a valid class 5 Drivers License
- Willingness to obtain First Aid Certification
