Senior Legislative Analyst

Role Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manger, Legislative Services, the Senior Legislative Analyst works to ensure policy and legislation (acts, regulations, and codes) are coordinated and aligned across the Ministry to support the Government's and Ministry's mandate. The Senior Legislative Analyst is responsible for providing legislative planning, development, and complex project management services to legislative and regulatory projects.
This position is responsible for leading and managing regulatory review projects and drafting of new or amending legislation and decision documents to implement Ministry policies respecting Alberta Labour Relations (including the Labour Relations Code, Public Service Employee Relations Act and associated regulations), and other professional and workplace rules. The position has responsibility for drafting and managing the process for Ministerial Orders and Recommendations for Orders in Council for Acts, regulations, and Ministry programs.
The position contributes to legislation projects and initiatives; contributes to, and sometimes leads, regulatory review project teams; participates on interdepartmental and cross-ministry committees; prepares and provides input to papers and briefings; identifies issues and potential solutions and responses; and completes research to inform perspective and alignment with strategic priorities on a wide array of issues. The scope of work spans the policy development cycle as related to legislation, the process for amending or introducing new legislation and regulations, and engagement and ongoing relationship development with stakeholders.
The position is responsible for building policy capacity by providing guidance to team and JET ad IM staff through the legislative and regulatory development process, ensuring that strategic policy considerations are clearly articulated, considered and coordinated. The position has a significant project management role, coordinating resources and providing guidance and expertise to staff, representatives and stakeholders during review, development, or revision of strategic policy considerations.
