Seeking a Social Worker to provide mental health services in school settings, working with children and adolescents to identify and address mental health disorders.

About the Opportunity

The Social Worker will provide services directly in the school community environment, working with a multidisciplinary team to plan, develop, and evaluate mental health services for children and adolescents.

  • Master's degree in Social Work
  • Current registration with Nova Scotia College of Social Workers or eligible to be registered
  • Minimum two years' experience providing mental health services to preschoolers, children and adolescents within a mental health setting
  • Knowledge of the DSM-IV-5 and ability to use to screen for, assess and conceptualize common childhood mental health disorders
  • Demonstrated diagnostic experience completing mental health assessments and implementing evidence-based treatment plans
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practice of principles of behavior management, cognitive behavior therapy, family and systems-based work, group therapy and other evidence-based practices
  • Ability to screen for concurrent mental health disorders
  • Knowledge of the impact of substance use on other mental health disorders and vice versa
  • Demonstrated experience in crisis and suicide risk assessment and intervention
  • Demonstrated ability to assess family functioning and implement family-based interventions
  • Exemplary ability to coordinate the development of effective linkages with other health, justice, education, social service and community agencies
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in working collaboratively and cooperatively with other professionals
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
Hours
  • Permanent part-time position; 37.5 hours bi-weekly
Compensation and Incentives

$49.04 Hourly
