Role Overview:

The HR & Safety Coordinator is responsible to support the overall development, coordination, evaluation and continuous improvement of human resources and safety programs. This dual-role position requires a dedicated individual who can efficiently manage HR duties while ensuring the company's safety protocols are effectively implemented and maintained. The ideal candidate will have experience in both HR and safety compliance, with a strong commitment to promoting a safe and productive workplace.

Core Responsibilities:

HR Coordinator

  • Assist in the recruitment process, including job postings, screening candidates, coordinating interviews, and conducting new hire orientations.
  • Serve as a point of contact for employee inquiries, addressing issues related to workplace policies, benefits, and general HR matters.
  • Maintain accurate employee records, including personal data, attendance, and performance evaluations, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
  • Assist with HR reporting and overall performance metrics
  • Assist with the administration of employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and leave management.
  • Help develop, implement and monitor policies and procedures that align with company goals and ensure legal compliance.
  • Coordinate and support employee training programs, including professional development and mandatory compliance training.

Safety Coordinator

  • Develop, prepare, implement, and monitor safety programs and policies to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and other relevant safety regulations, conducting regular audits and inspections to identify potential hazards.
  • Preparation of monthly HSE reporting and information
  • Manage the reporting and investigation of workplace accidents, injuries, and safety concerns, ensuring timely and thorough documentation.
  • Coordinate safety training sessions for employees, including hazard communication, emergency response, and equipment safety.
  • Act as a liaison to the company's health and safety committee, organizing meetings, setting agendas, and following up on action items.
  • Ensure appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is available, properly maintained, and used by employees as required.

As roles and business needs evolve and change, from time to time you will be asked to embrace diverse tasks and projects as guided by your team leader, further contributing to our dynamic and collaborative environment.

Qualifications and experience:

  • 3-5 years experience in human resources, with exposure to safety program management
  • Familiarity with HR practices, including recruitment, employee relations, and benefits administration
  • Experience with safety compliance, OHS regulations, and conducting safety audits
  • A high level of comfort using an HR management system (we use Bamboo) and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of Alberta Employment Standards and Human Rights Legislation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
