Rehabilitation Assistant Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Rehabilitation Assistant to join our team at Fraser Health, a leading healthcare provider in British Columbia, Canada. As a Rehabilitation Assistant, you will work under the direction of a professional nurse and therapist to implement treatment plans and assist patients with rehabilitation and recovery.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of rehabilitation principles and practices, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement designated components of a rehabilitative treatment plan under the direction of a physiotherapist or occupational therapist.
  • Carry out designated components of the treatment plan related to mobility under the direction of nursing.
  • Observe and report cognitive and functional changes in patient ability or behavior that may warrant a progression or regression of the treatment plan.
  • Provide input into the planning, implementation, modification, and evaluation of the treatment plan as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Perform various tests as assigned by PT or OT, such as Berg Balance, Timed Up and Go (TUG), and six-minute walk test.
  • Prepare and apply therapeutic treatment modalities as assigned by PT or OT, such as transcutaneous electrical stimulation (TENS), neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES), hot packs, ice, and wax treatments.
  • Provide functional skills training to patients and families in activities of daily living, mobility, and communication.
  • Assist with power and manual wheelchair mobility training.
  • Maintain therapy equipment and supplies, and provide input regarding purchase of new equipment and supplies.
Qualifications:
  • Completion of a Rehabilitation Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
