Job Title: Producer, CBC News Network Dayside

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced producer to join our team at CBC News Network Dayside. As a producer, you will be responsible for creating and editing live and breaking news content for our daytime programming.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and produce live breaking news coverage, including creating and editing news segments, researching and gathering information, and writing and editing scripts.
  • Work closely with the executive producer and senior producers to develop and implement editorial plans and ensure that all content meets the highest standards of quality and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with other producers, writers, and associate producers to ensure that all content is well-researched, well-written, and engaging.
  • Monitor live feeds and make decisions quickly and accurately in fast-paced, breaking news situations.
  • Operate automated lineups and control room systems, including Ross Overdrive and iNews Toolbar.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of CBC Journalistic Standards and Practices and their practical implementation.
Requirements:
  • Seven years of daily news experience, including experience in developing and producing live breaking news coverage.
  • Control room experience is critical, including the ability to interact with other journalists and to convey information to hosts in live, breaking news situations.
  • Experience creating and working in automated lineups is also critical.
  • University degree or equivalent.
  • Candidates must demonstrate superior knowledge of broadcast journalism, and related skills such as writing, vetting and editing.
  • A deep knowledge of iNews Toolbar, VizRT, MediaCentral and an understanding of automated control room systems including Ross Overdrive is crucial.
  • Experience operating a K5 (or similar).
  • Highly developed communication skills; able to communicate effectively and cooperatively.
  • Highly developed organizational and decision making skills, including the ability to prioritize, organize and pay attention to detail in a deadline driven environment.
  • Broad range of interests and knowledge, such as politics, business, science, sports, entertainment, popular culture, technology and health and medicine.
  • Commitment to reflecting community and diversity.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of CBC Journalistic Standards and Practices and their practical implementation.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of rights issues around third-party material.
