Produce Order Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Produce Order Writer to join our team at Whole Foods Market. As a key member of our produce team, you will be responsible for ordering, replenishing, and merchandising produce, participating in regional programs, and maintaining inventory control.
Key Responsibilities:- Order and replenish produce through proper buying procedures to ensure optimal inventory levels and minimize waste.
- Monitor and act upon open PO reports for both purchases and credits in a timely and accurate manner.
- Control spoilage and shrink, achieve turn goals, and participate in inventory to maintain a high level of product freshness and quality.
- Complete spoilage, sampling, temperature, and sweep worksheets as required to ensure compliance with company standards.
- Maximize sales potential through effective and proper procedures for stocking and merchandising products to meet customer demands.
- Ensure orders for product are timely and accurate to monitor inventory turns and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Oversee customer special order procedure to provide exceptional customer service and meet customer needs.
- Analyze and control product transfers, waste, and spoilage to minimize losses and maximize profitability.
- Support leadership in conducting inventories to ensure accurate inventory levels and maintain a high level of product freshness and quality.
- Maintain financial profitability by meeting and exceeding purchasing and sales targets to drive business growth and success.
- Arrive to work station on time, appropriately groomed, dressed, and ready to work; work all scheduled shifts and attend required trainings and meetings to ensure a high level of productivity and teamwork.
- Provide excellent customer service, address needs of customers in a timely and effective manner, and model suggestive selling techniques to meet customer demands and expectations.
- Maximize sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising product to meet customer demands and expectations.
- Follow and comply, or ensure compliance, with established procedures, including Weights and Measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices to maintain a high level of product freshness and quality.
- Maintain, or ensure maintenance of, a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment; maintain equipment in accordance with WFM cleanliness and safety standards to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction and employee safety.
- Perform opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned; ensure accuracy of signs and pricing to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction and employee safety.
- Immediately report safety hazards and violations to ensure a safe working environment and maintain a high level of employee safety.
- Extensive produce product knowledge, including production, distribution, seasonal availability, advances, and trends.
- Familiarity and/or willingness to learn about products, nutritional information, and other areas of study.
- Working knowledge and application of all produce-related merchandising expectations.
- Demonstrates a desire to grow with the Produce team.
- Ability to educate team on product knowledge and convey enthusiasm.
- Strong basic math skills.
- Knowledge and ability to use computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and ordering systems.
- Strong to excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.
- Ability to deliver information in a clear and respectful manner to fellow Team Members, customers, and vendors.
- Ability to meet customer service expectations and standards in all interactions with customers, vendors, and Team Members.
- Ability to follow directions and procedures; effective time management and organization skills.
- Passion for natural foods and the mission of Whole Foods Market.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of and compliance with WFM quality goals.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- In an 8-hour work day: standing/walking 6-8 hours.
- Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
- Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching.
- Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.
- Exposure to temperatures: 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Ability to work in wet and dry conditions.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Ability to use tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.
- May require use of ladders.
