Job Title: Community Services Support Worker

The Salvation Army NWT Resource Centre is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Community Services Support Worker to join our team. As a key member of our community services department, you will play a vital role in providing support to individuals in need.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide exceptional customer service to the public, responding to inquiries and directing them to the appropriate department.
  • Manage the reception area, ensuring it remains clean and tidy, and receiving deliveries and donations.
  • Distribute food hampers and clothing vouchers, and assist with the organization and maintenance of non-monetary donations.
  • Stock and distribute toiletries to clients, and provide access to laundry and shower facilities.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for clients and staff.
  • Work collaboratively with volunteers and staff to achieve departmental goals.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support as needed.
  • Assist with seasonal programs and events.
  • Prepare food hampers for clients and maintain the cleanliness and organization of the food bank.
  • Refer clients to other community resources as appropriate.
Administrative Support:
  • Record statistics for the Community Services Department and Corps.
  • File documents and maintain accurate records.
  • Process mail and donations, and provide temporary receipts to donors.
  • Support leadership staff with correspondence, filing, and scanning.
Contacts:

As a Community Services Support Worker, you will have frequent contact with the public, staff, and volunteers. You will be the first point of contact for individuals seeking support from The Salvation Army NWT Resource Centre.

Working Conditions:
  • Work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interactions with individuals who may be experiencing mental health issues or substance abuse.
  • Manage stress and chaos in a professional manner.
  • Perform general housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean and safe workspace.
  • Lift and move up to 40 pounds as required.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  • Experience in social services or a related field.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn new software.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check.
  • Completion of high school and additional courses in facilities management or a related field.
Preferred Skills and Capabilities:

Previous experience in reception or administrative work is an asset.
