The Opportunity

TC Energy's Practice of Engineering and Geoscience (POEG) team focuses on enabling engineering and geoscience practices (i.e., technical practice) as a competitive advantage to TC Energy. This mandate is driven by our vision of having Technical Personnel in place that enable a culture of excellence through training, education, experience, and collaboration in the delivery of Technical Work that enables assets to be safe, reliable, cost competitive, and sustainable while meeting performance requirements.

The POEG Team also acts as the "gatekeepers" of the Company's Permits and Certificates of Practice in jurisdictions where required, improves and maintains POEG documentation (Manual, Frameworks, and other guiding documents), and provides guidance on jurisdictional compliance and quality in technical practice across the organization.

We are seeking a Senior Engineer or Geoscientist who is passionate about professional ethics and ensuring technical practice quality for our assets. The successful candidate will provide stewardship of best-in-class technical practice, collaborate within Safety & Technical Services (STS) and with our Projects and Business Unit partners to establish and assure sound technical practice and resolve issues, and drive continuous improvement priorities.

What you'll do

  • Develop standards, processes and procedures that enable compliance and quality in technical practice
  • Deliver and support assurance of POEG requirements and support teams in implementation
  • Facilitate collaboration on and resolution of technical and ethical practice issues across the organization
  • Maintain requirements for jurisdictional permits to practice and certificates of authorization
  • Maintain relationships with regulatory bodies that establish professional practice requirements and guidelines, and facilitate resolution of compliance matters
  • Assess changes in legal requirements impacting the POEG, develop and lead gap closure plans to ensure compliance
  • Assess technical practice hazards and risks and provide input in support of risk management processes
  • Facilitate engagements and outreach with stakeholders to share lessons learned and raise awareness to POEG requirements and changes
  • Support efforts and provide guidance on Technical Career Progression Framework development and related technical competency requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary Degree in Engineering or Geoscience
  • For candidates based out of Canada, Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo) designation with a governing body (e.g., APEGA) in good standing
  • 10 years of progressive relevant experience in engineering or geoscience practice
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret regulations, technical standards and code requirements
  • Experience with technical review, compliance verification and/or assurance
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to organize and facilitate meetings and present timely and relevant reporting to various stakeholders
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in understanding customer needs, influencing and leading change
  • Ability to exercise leadership with and without formal authority

Preferred Qualifications

  • Systems thinking with experience in process design and management systems
  • Familiarity with project management principles and practices
  • Experience applying technical codes and standards
  • Experience with management of change and organizational change management activities
  • For candidates based out of the US, Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.G.) license with a governing body (e.g., TBPELS, TBPG) in good standing

This position requires candidates to:

  • Successfully complete pre-employment medical screening including drug and alcohol testing
  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review
