Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Fire Chief to join our team at the City of Windsor. As a key member of the Windsor Fire & Rescue Services Management Team, you will provide administrative, operational, and leadership support for the Fire and Rescue and Training Divisions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership for the operation and administration of assigned divisions, ensuring alignment with departmental strategic goals and corporate objectives.
  • Responsible for the research, assessment, and coordination of strategically significant departmental initiatives and improvement processes.
  • Develop, implement, and administer departmental policies and procedures to augment corporate and departmental objectives.
  • Liaise with various agencies, municipalities, and authorities to maintain harmonious relationships and ensure effective emergency response.
  • Oversee the development of pre-incident plans for target risks and hazards in the community.
  • Plan, coordinate, and direct firefighting and rescue activities, including responding to multiple alarm emergencies and major emergencies.
  • Assume command of scene and may be responsible for assuming the role of Emergency Site Manager/Incident Commander for large-scale fires and natural disasters.
Requirements
  • University degree in Business, Public Administration, Sciences, Engineering, or related field, or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalencies.
  • Minimum of four years of experience in a fire service operations environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completed Community Emergency Management Coordinator designation (CEMC) or willingness to obtain within one year of start date.
  • IMS 200, IMS 300, NFPA 1021 Level III, and NFPA 1041 Level II certifications, or willingness to obtain within one year of start date.
  • Supervisory/managerial experience in a unionized environment, with command experience in complex emergency scenes.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of legislation, municipal by-laws, building codes, fire codes, risk, and emergency management.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct the activities of management staff engaged in administrative functions.
  • Proven oral and written communication skills to deal effectively with civic officials, staff, senior levels of government, stakeholders, and the public.
