Community Mental Health Nurse required to provide screening, triage, assessment, treatment, and case coordination services to a community mental health and addictions population.


Under the direction of a Manager, the Community Mental Health Nurse provides a complex range of services to a community mental health and addictions population. The incumbent provides program consultation and coordination, evaluation of clinical interventions, supervision, and preceptorship of students in formal clinical practicum. The incumbent will provide nursing leadership and clinical expertise in the development and maintenance of community mental health and addiction treatment programs.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide screening, triage, assessment, treatment, and case coordination services to a community mental health and addictions population.
  • Provide program consultation and coordination, evaluation of clinical interventions, supervision, and preceptorship of students in formal clinical practicum.
  • Provide nursing leadership and clinical expertise in the development and maintenance of community mental health and addiction treatment programs.

Requirements:
  • Graduation from an approved school of psychiatric nursing or general nursing supplemented by recognized training in psychiatric nursing.
  • Minimum of 2 years (post-graduate) recent recognized Mental Health & Addiction experience.
  • Excellent knowledge and skills related to community psychiatric nursing practice, including assessment, triage, treatment, case management, and medication usage.
  • Ability to identify and evaluate areas of client difficulty across a wide range of clinical presentations and formulate evidence-based interventions.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing or Nursing diploma.
  • Psychiatric Nursing diploma.
  • Considerable work experience with mental health and addictions community outreach and competence in delivering mental health and addiction crisis interventions.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and in partnership with a multidisciplinary team and other agencies in the community.

Education and Training:
  • Registered/eligible with the Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of SK.
  • Registered/eligible with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS).
  • Basic computer/keyboarding skills.
