Job Summary:

The Public Health Nurse will provide investigation and follow-up of reportable and non-reportable communicable diseases, including sexually transmitted diseases, in a day-to-day basis. The nurse will examine patients for sexually transmitted diseases and ensure necessary examinations and treatments are carried out. The nurse will also provide HIV counseling and anonymous HIV testing for clients requesting this service.

Responsibilities:

  • Investigate and follow up on reportable and non-reportable communicable diseases, including sexually transmitted diseases
  • Examine patients for sexually transmitted diseases and ensure necessary examinations and treatments are carried out
  • Provide HIV counseling and anonymous HIV testing for clients requesting this service
  • Provide family planning information and counseling
  • Assist with liaison and referrals to other health personnel and agencies
  • Promote educational programs for the public and other professionals
  • Assist with immunization as requested

Requirements:

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing with courses in Public Health Nursing
  • Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
  • Possession of current certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (C.P.R.)
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in public health nursing
  • Good knowledge of principles, techniques and practices governing public health nursing
  • Good knowledge of needs of healthy and unwell individuals
  • Considerable knowledge of prevention, transmission and treatment of communicable diseases, particularly of sexually transmitted diseases
