Job Summary

The Program Assistant - Children and Youth will facilitate community-based child and youth programs. Participate in the implementation and assist in monitoring and evaluation of age and culturally appropriate programs to help meet the needs of children, youth and their families using a capacity building and health promotion framework.

Job Specific Responsibilities

  • Direct service with children 6-12 years at an After School Program
  • Assists to plan programs that enhance cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development
  • Implements and assists to monitor, and evaluate community-based programs
  • Assists to register and maintain files and daily attendance for each child registered and participating in community-based program
  • Provide updates and contacts parents when necessary
  • Monitor and maintain/purchase adequate supplies and equipment for programming
  • Create linkages with available community resources i.e. local schools, recreation centres
  • Ensure all program safety measures are being met
  • Works closely with volunteers and student placements

Qualifications

  • 2 Covid 19 vaccinations
  • Post secondary education in a related field
  • Experience working directly with child and youth
  • Criminal Reference check for working with vulnerable populations
  • Current CPR level C, First Aid
  • Food Handlers and High Five Certification, an asset
  • Adequate energy level and ability to meet the physical demands of the job
  • Strong knowledge of child development and behaviour guidance techniques
  • Effective at communicating and problem solving
  • Experience and flexibility working in diverse community-based programs with families facing multiple health risks and barriers
