WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Disability Management & Wellness Specialist will support the development, delivery, and ongoing operation and administration of the company's short and long-term disability programs (STD and LTD), workers' compensation board (WCB) claims, and employee wellness programs. The role will involve ensuring that these programs are administered efficiently and effectively, in compliance with relevant regulations, and in alignment with company values.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders on the management of Short-Term medical leave program including claims management, administration, and employee contact.
  • Create and implement wellness programs and initiatives to promote a healthy work environment and support employee well-being.
  • Develop programs and resources to support mental health and well-being, including stress management and work-life balance initiatives.
  • Process workplace injury related paperwork, including submitting to government regulators and liaising with WCB to support Crew return to work process.
  • Work with our third-party claim's adjudicator, supporting the coordination of suitable and sustainable return to work plans for occupational and non-occupational claims with an employee's leader.
  • Work with Crew, leaders, service providers, and the People Team to assess feasibility of accommodation requests and create accommodation agreements.
  • Participate in Fit for Work/Substance Use investigations and accommodations.
  • Support the implementation of early intervention strategies and ensure Crew have access to external, third party medical and wellness support, as appropriate.
  • Maintain knowledge of government regulations, program trends, and prevailing practices to ensure the company's policies comply with the law and best practices.
  • Provide guidance and consultation to Crew and leaders regarding medical leave policies and procedures.
  • Exercise a high degree of discretion with information of a private and or medical nature.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, supporting the development and implementation of any new corporate policies/programs related to employee wellness.
  • Engage appropriate stakeholders when recommending new or modifying existing programs, guidelines, or policies.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships across the organization in order to effectively gather information and to provide advice and recommendations.
  • Monitor trends in WCB, long- and short-term disability, and wellness participation and make recommendations based on those trends.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, Occupational Health and Safety, Human Resources, or related.
  • Extensive experience in disability case management, an equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.
  • Experience managing disabilities in a unionized environment considered an asset.
  • Experience working with wellness agencies/advocacy groups, vendors, and insurers.
  • Experience working with collective bargaining agreements.
  • Certification in Disability Case Management or related is preferred.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Extensive knowledge of legislation pertaining to employment, accommodation, and disability management
  • Experience creating and implementing innovative evidence-based total wellness programs (including mental health)
  • Strong vendor management skills
  • Related professional designation preferred
  • Experience working in a federally regulated workplace an asset
  • Experience administering workplace substance abuse programs an asset
