Job Description: This position is a critical member of the Community Engagement and Communications (CEC) portfolio. In this fast-paced, high pressure portfolio, this position regularly manages sensitive files that are high-profile and directly impact SHA's reputation. The specialist works cross-functionally within CEC, supporting complex communication strategies focused on issues management. Media Relations is the single point of contact within the SHA for local, provincial, national and international journalists. In one of the highest profile sectors in the province, the Media Relations team responds to 1200 media inquiries annually, with complex daily demands and firm external deadlines for information or interviews that result in the Specialist interacting independently with every level of the organization. This position utilizes unique journalistic expertise with effective leadership, communication and analytical skills. The Specialist must foster strong relationships with media relations counterparts in municipal, provincial and federal governments, including Ministry of Health and provincial health system partners/agencies. They will collaborate with colleagues and external organizations by conducting research, planning, organizing and delivering final media products or services, including social media monitoring and content gathering/creation, and on-site facilitation of media events. The Specialist will advocate and seek opportunities to further grow the SHA's brand and reputation, educating the public on health services and improvements to care delivery through development and utilization of strong media and client relationships.

  • Undergraduate degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
